This book will become a classic in time.,

This review is from: Composition Photo Workshop (Paperback)
The Composition Photo Workshop is a great book for beginning and intermediate photographers. Having read 9 photography books, this is my top pick for the modern digital era. I predict that this book will become the de facto standard teaching book for photography composition as digital photography becomes more prevalent.Key points about the book: (1) It covers the basics about what differentiates a composed photograph from a snapshot, starting with the golden mean, depth of field, and lighting topics. From there, the author translates those into making your ISO, Aperture, and Shutter speed settings when composing a picture. (2) The author comfortably walks beginning photographers into more advanced topics, such as color theory, Ansel Adam's "Zone" system for metering, white balance, and filters. (3) The book subtly explains the 100+ year history of film photography and how to use digital photography to its full advantage. Both film & digital users will feel very much at home, and digital camera owners learn how to take advantage of the benefits digital photography offers. (4) The author has an excellent selection of teaching photographs so the reader gains a very quick understanding of non-intuitive topics such as depth-of-field (aperture), color filters, and metering. Whether you own a point and shoot camera or a $5000 SLR, this book teaches how to compose great pictures and harvest the power of the most important tool in the photography business -- the photographer himself.

Interesting and good technical advice,

The book title is a bit misleading to me. It is far more than a book on photo composition. As a result of using this book, I got myself out of the auto mode on my point and shoot camera and into the shutter priority and aperture modes. I figured out how to take pics in low light by simply slowing down my shutter speed...and not using a flash. I also learned a lot about color theory and how to use different kinds of filters and why they work (ie polarizers and neutral density filters.) All in all, a good book. The first time i read through it quickly, i really didn't get it. However, once i sat down and really listened to what Blue Fier has to say on certain topics, my knowledge moved up to a higher level.

This is another great photography book for both beginner an intermediate photographers. This is one book io take with me on holidays to refresh my photography skills and help me work through certain challenging shots. These are the best photography books I have used to date. I love the lessons they give you, and then you can try the techniques you learned, upload your pictures online and have other amateur photographers rate your pictures. I love this book so much I bought the whole series. I wish I could fit them in my pocket to travel with or had the electronic version. They are great!
