Valuable supplement to text,

This package includes the manual itself and access to the pattern classification toolbox (available via the web). The manual provides a brief introduction to MATLAB and the toolbox, and an appendix (nearly half the length) containing descriptions of the toolbox programs organized by chapter in the Pattern Classification text. It's all very well done, and therefore extremely helpful in learning and applying ideas and algorithms. For people with a programming background but little experience with MATLAB, working with this package (especially the toolbox source code) is enough to get you up and running. Highly recommended.

I was one of the early access recipient of this toolbox and found it extremely useful. It basically has a whole bunch of cleaning and classification algos.The toolbox also allows one to extend its use with new algorithms, tweaks or to use our dataset. As long as its formatted in the same fashion. I would strongly recommend this toolbox, if you are looking for additional material, another book worth having is Christopher Bishop's book.

Doesn't deserve to be called a manual,

It's an paperback book that could probably just shrink down into the plastic outline notes that sells for $5 at the bookstore. It sure is a collection of the basic instruction of Matlab that you can google or go bonehead with the help feature in Matlab. Definitely, not worth the price.

Talk about over-hype from reviewer #1!This "manual" is thin on substantive content, with TONS of whitespace & whitepages to stretch it out to ~125pages. This supplementary book is absolutely useless. The contents of this book are poor and sparsely laid out, it just like an entry level MATLAB tutorial.
