Excellent Tartini, Feb 28 2007

This review is from: Con Vn-Vol. 7 (Audio CD)
L'Arte Dell'Arco are engaged in the ambitious task of recording all 135 Tartini violin concertos, this is Vol 7, I think they are up to Vol 12. I chose Vol 7 more or less at random to sample their output. It contains four concertos thought to have been composed in the years 1721 to 1735, early works.
The music is played with one instrument per part, just seven players, this makes for a clear and open sound. At first listening I thought the performance just a bit aggressive, and the sound a little hard, but now am happy to describe it as enthusiastic, but I would have liked a lute added to the continuo to give a softer and luscious feel. This applies especially to the slow movements.
Overall it is a very good performance, clear, precise and joyful. It is not as good as the one Tartini cocerto I have played by Carmignola/ Venice baroque, but it is well worth 5 stars. I will now seek out their version of later concertos.
( The music is played at A= 440/442 Hz, "Venetian Pitch"; I must admit I had never heard of this, but it is quite correct, baroque music is usually played at 415Hz, the pitch in common use in Germany at that time.)

This is the pinnacle of extreme mastery composition !! Please listen to this cd then reaccess everything and review.
What was printed on the back of the cd was not what was ripped on my computer. I think disc 4 and 7 are backwards! When I put disc 7 on my computer it overwrites disc 4 on my computers and vice versa.
Proper 442 hz Venetian time! Superior period instruments, strings, and bows! Recorded in the castles, palaces, and venues where they were actually performed for the royalty and nobility of the day!
Best sound quality and production I ever heard!
Best ensemble I ever heard!
Giovanni Guglielmo and the L'Arte Dell'Arco label have set the highest bar in music to date on planet Earth !!! Yes!!! Seriously!!!! (and, no!, I don't work for them)
Tartini is on the Doctoral level compared to Vivaldi's Masters! AND I LOVE VIVALDI !!!!Tartini is deep and pontificates with his works! Tartini was the supreme violin virtuosic and consummate composer, adept and matchless in his skills!
If you like Vivaldi you will really like Tartini, probably even more afterward, as Vivaldi music seems like a primer for Tartini.
Remember, Paganini was inspired by Tartini! The whole devil mythos was taken from Tartini too!
Warning! such perfect sound and unreal compositional proficiency and cleverness may be outside of some listener's audible and musical comprehension. There is no musical solecism here only talented genius!!
I use to think Telarc and Deutsche Gramophone were tops till I heard this!
You Are Welcome !!!
Good Day!!
