I've listened to this album a hundred times & never get tired of it.
Concierto is an album by the Jim Hall sextet featuring Paul Desmond, Chet Baker, Ron Carter, Steve Gadd and Roland Hanna, produced by Creed Taylor and recorded at Van Gelder Studios April 16 and 23, 1975. A jazz album, Concierto is named after Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez.
The gang starts off with "You'd be so Nice to Come home to"m As a jazz guitarist myself, he does this so well I am not ashamed to say I've borrowed from some of his riffs (stolen is more like it) Beautiful!
Two's Blues by Jim Hall is great. Chet Baker does a great solo on this one. Hall is magnificent.
"The Answer is Yes" was written by Hall's Wife. It's a medium tempo tune & absolutely gorgeous. Hall does the intro & the theme is taken by Baker; then Hall takes over again.
Then we get to the composition that inspired the album, "Concierto de Aranjuez" I didn't know what to expect when first I heard it, but man all do a great job on this one. You've got to hear it to believe it. Much better than the version by Miles Davis.
Well, I could write all day about this CD, but you'll have to hear it for yourself.
It's only a few bucks, parking meter momey.....just buy it!
