This review is from: Concerto for Group & Orchestra (Audio CD)
I was about 17 when I first heard this and I am revisiting italmost 40 years later. I just ordered my copy and when it arrives I will have an UPDATE. It was new, for a hard rock band like DP, to "move in" with a large orchestra and record an album. A few bands of the day, pulled it off. Uriah Heep "Salisbury" and Procol Harum with "The Edmonton Symphony".... I was a hard core acid rock listener in those days but I carved out time to enjoy these forays into Classical/Rock match ups. I hope the sound on this release is very good, but, if not, I'll still feel cool about having this in my collection.

Why is this Version Cut?,
By
This review is from: Concerto for Group & Orchestra (Audio CD)
One of the more frustrating things about "remasters" is that sometimes they are "re-edits". While this release gives us one more track in the pre-concerto performance ("Hush"), as well as the previously unreleased encore, the editors of this CD have cut more than 2 minutes from the third movement of the concerto!!While this cut was mainly from the lengthy drum solo, there was certainly enough room on the disc for the full version. The now out of print import CD has the complete version and sounds equally as good as the remaster. This "remaster" smacks of revisionist history. For shame!

The best of 2 worlds,

This review is from: Concerto for Group & Orchestra (Audio CD)
This is an amazing piece of music, all 3 movements are a perfect mixture of the hard-rock Deep Purple sound and the always pleasant orchestral instruments. Buy this album if you have an open mind about good music!
