Book Description

Sep 29 2005

Who will be president in 2008? Many believe that the White House is Hillary Clinton's to lose. As long-time strategists Dick Morris and Eileen McGann reveal in Condi vs. Hillary, however, Hillary's plans for higher office are vulnerable to a challenge from a most unexpected quarter: the Bush administration's secretary of state and former national security advisor, Condoleezza Rice.

Rice is the only figure on the national scene who has the credentials, the credibility, and the charisma to lead the GOP in 2008. And, as this first book on the subject demonstrates, a race between these two commanding, but very different, women is a very real possibility -- and would inevitably prove one of the most fascinating and important races in American history.

Blending insider insight and political foresight, Condi vs. Hillary surveys the strengths and weaknesses of the two candidates, finding persuasive clues about what we might expect from each of them as a chief executive. It traces their very different childhoods -- Hillary Rodham's in unchallenging suburban comfort, Condi Rice's in Birmingham, Alabama, during the civil rights era -- and finds in each the roots of their latter-day selves. It explores their career in public life -- Hillary's as an ambitious liberal who attached herself to a governor on the rise, Condi's as a woman of broad and deep talents who has earned her own way. It turns a discerning eye on how each has spent her time in government, contrasting Condi's growth and maturation in office with Hillary's record of underachievement as both first lady and senator from New York. And it reveals how a draft-Condi movement could sweep the secretary of state into the presidency even as she forgoes campaigning to address her responsibilities as secretary of state.

America, in short, may be on the verge of a perfect storm of twenty-first-century politics, pitting two of America's most popular -- and controversial -- women against each other, and offering Americans a choice between fulfilling the ambitions of one of our most polarizing figures . . . or changing history by electing not just the first woman, but also the first African American woman, to lead the free world into the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who is more cold-hearted? Nov 2 2005
Format:Hardcover
RACE, on the one hand, indicates a race, a regatta around the president office, RACE on the other hand also points to skin color, the Rice-Race:
Will 2008 for the first time not only a woman but even an Afro-American woman rule over the most powerful country of the world?
Unfortunately, Condoleezza Rice is not a democrat
(this would make the decision easier for me -- she, however, once changed from the democrats over to the republicans).
Unfortunately "Condi" is a vassal of the fundamental Christian Republican Party, stained too much for me with oil and war, with "The Republican War on Science" (a book of Chris Mooney), stained with a sworn Texan family group.
Hillary Clinton however has not proved only with her happy-go-lucky husband generosity and forgiving knowledge, she has always had the nose in the wind of the political developments at the very front through him, too.
Perhaps she already has been the designer of liberal political thinking in the back of Bill for a long time and, finally, finally, has deserved to step from the shadow.
On the other hand Dick Morris thinks that "Condi" has finally, finally earned to escape from the shadow (as a patient prompter of Bush's son George W.) .
Rice does not have by marriage (as alleged Hillary) found the entrance into the most important power pairs of compasses, but by (at first scientific) performances of one's own.
The era of the women (at times of Kennedy or Reagan), staying as merely jewelry full accessories, this era has gone.
Women are involved in politics gradually with equal rights -- as not only the "Iron Lady" Thatcher once proved the Englishmen -- but also currently the just voted Angela Merkel - being the first female chancellor in Germany.
The race of the women in the USA does not make awake only feminists .
Condi pleasantly does not stand against a man. (Would Schwarzenegger vs. Kerry be more thrilling ? )
Man vs. woman would distort the decision to be taken politically and ideologically -- as happened in Germany recently: The well-known feminist Alice Schwarzer made advertisement for would-be-chancellor Angela Merkel , although it would have been more logical, Alice Schwarzer would not have supported the conservative party (for which the man always remains the family head of course ) but the socialist direction (with Gerhard Schröder).
Because with Hillary and Condi likeable not only men stand for the choice, one may breathe a sigh of relief, and vote for Hillary for example without having done something anti-women.
Perhaps one votes with Hillary for the more convincing personality - and not only the one, which is more avaricious to have all the power.
The most power hungry persons gain acceptance, however, everywhere, no matter whether man or woman.
One should therefore read the book of Dick Morris and Eileen McGann attentively, judging, who is more cold-hearted...

By James R. Loftis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Anyone who has been paying attention to the 2008 election will gaze in awe at Dick Morris's amazing prescience. Indeed, the race between Hilary Clinton and Condi Rice riveted America. And only a woman of Condi's intellectual depth and personal integrity could save us from Hilary Clinton and become America's first Black president.
