Product Description

Product Description

This internationally prizewinning volume now appears in its second, revised and expanded edition. Since the first edition was published in 2005, it has been adopted as a textbook at many universities.

Organized into chapters on "Raw Materials/Building Materials (Modules)," "Building Components (Elements)," "Building Methods (Structures)," and "Buildings (Examples)," the book now includes a new section on translucent materials and an article on the use of glass. The chapter on "Building Elements" now includes a discussion of facades, and the chapter on "Structures" has been expanded to cover "Principles of Space Creation." The examples section now includes extensive documentation of current projects whose systematic character is oriented around the production process.

Experience with the preceding edition has shown that the book has become an indispensable handbook for reference and reading not only for students and teachers but also for architects.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great book, very poor edition..., Jan 31 2010
By Christopher Sklar (Vancouver, CANADA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is a great book for students and architects alike but I would avoid this edition of this book at all costs. The copy I received was half the thickness stated in the description (the paper is very thin) and the printing is very poor. I have seen 2nd editions out there that have beautiful printing on very nice paper but for some reason this isn't the one. The drawings are so blurry that you often cannot even distinguish individual lines from each other, the whole book looks as though its been photocopied and rebound as economically as possible. Main distinguishing characteristics of this edition are a glossy cover, 1.25" thick and a lack of pale blue section pages. The 'real' version should have a matte cover, be about 2" thick and include the pale blue section pages. As it stands the drawings in this version are unreadable and completely useless and the printing of the text is uneven. I would suggest finding a used copy and verify with the seller which edition it is before buying!
