If you just read *one* monograph on the Book of Proverbs -- and I'd suggest you read more! -- this is the *one* you need to get. Technical, yes, but Van Leeuwen's revamped dissertation has done much to defend and explore the literary style of the Proverbs. Once viewed as a kind of haphazard collection of random literature, RVL shows this is anything but true. Be sure to check out his commentary on Proverbs in the New Interpreter's Bible commentary series. They are all indispensable resources for studying Proverbs.
