This job should be a piece of cake: former smuggler Chris Farraday (Mark Wahlberg) gets dragged back into the game in order to make things right with a nasty New Orleans gangster (Giovanni Ribisi) over a debt owed by Chris's brother-in-law. So, Chris needs to smuggle in some goods on a cargo ship from Panama, pay the guy off, and return to a suburban life on the straight and narrow. No problem, right? What's fun about Contraband is that despite its hero's meticulous planning, all hell breaks loose in Panama City, where nothing goes as planned and where the cargo ship is, after all, due to disembark at a certain time, with or without him. Based on the Icelandic film Reykjavík-Rotterdam, this movie is full of stock characters and rancid dialogue, but the plot is so kicky and wild, it almost doesn't matter, at least for as long as the movie is on screen. Director Baltasar Kormákur (he produced the original film and directed the entertaining 101 Reykjavík) pumps up the action nicely, although the actors are on their own: Wahlberg contributes his customary solid center, which a movie like this needs, but Kate Beckinsale has nothing to do as his wife, and Ribisi and Ben Foster emote with reckless abandon. No one will mistake it for a classic, but Contraband has enough zip, and a few genuine surprises, to qualify it as a fun diversion. --Robert Horton

I think everyone of you people are so biased of this movie it's not funny anymore,
you can't take a movie that says Contraband and then turn it into something else,it doesn't
work, it stands what it stand for being a crook of the night, this is why the movie is so dark
to give you the undercover fell of the people involved, and just to see couple of my favourite
actors [Ben Forster] 3 Ten to Yuma and [Giovanni Ribisi] Boiler Room, was enough for me,
well, and who can forget there's Kate Beckinsale um um.
the movie was very intense, and very thrilling at times, listen all you others who's thinking of
not seeing this, trust me it's very good.
i just love the u-control from Universal Studios,
2.35:1 1080p High Definition,DTS Master Audio 5.1.

If I had to pick a guy that I had a man-crush on, It would be Mark Wahlberg. Who could forget Boogie Nights or Fear? The Italian Job? I was excited when I saw this movie come out in theaters, and waited til it came out on Blu-Ray before watching it for the first time. It didn't really grab my attention from the get-go, and I lost interest early on, so it may be a little better than I remember, but for the most part, it cannot touch his classics. Although, isn't that usually the case?

This film is full of twists and turns and kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end. I love to try and figure out the plot of the movie I am watching and usually I am successful in figuring things out. Not so in this case I was baffled right up to the end.

As much as I hate to say it, but this is a pretty boring film. It seems to trudge along ad nausea, and when something finally happens it seems almost anti-climatic. It tries to give the ambiance of a film like Traffic, yet offers none of the suspense or intrigue.

I expected much more action and excitement than what actually occurred, and to make things worse, this film has got one of the most laughable and ludicrous story lines I have ever seen for a major Hollywood film. So much of what happens in this film is so unbelievable that it becomes embarrassing. Even the ending, which includes the odious affirmation that crime does pay for "good" criminals, is so disingenuous and manipulative.

I would not recommend this film.
