Product Description

From Amazon.com

Scott Weiland. Slash. Duff McKagen. Matt Sorum. It doesn't seem like a good idea to put these people in a room together, let alone a band. But it was the same exact explosive element of danger and low I.Q. scores that made both of these players' former groups-- Stone Temple Pilots and Guns N' Roses--sell billions, so why stand in their way? The music on Contraband sounds appropriately monumental, all window-quivering riffs, and ticker-tape parade choruses. "Do It For the Kids" and "Set Me Free" take direct inspiration from Nirvana, meaning they are brilliantly raw, raucous, and indecent. It's great stuff. The power-ballads like "Fall to Pieces" and "You Got No Right," however, are more heartburn than heartbreak when compared to past achievements like, oh, let's say "Sweet Child O' Mine." --Aidin Vaziri

I've had my eye on this CD for a while. Then, me and my friend traded CD's for a little while. He got my Texas Chainsaw Massacre Soundtrack, and I got his Velvet Revolver Contraband. And let me tell you, the trade wasn't fair. He got a head banging CD that sported such bands as Pantera, Hatebreed, Lamb Of God, Mushroomhead, Meshuggah. And I got THIS? Hell, no! Man! I was mad. I listened to this once all the way through, put the CD back in the case, and wanted to smash it. What a terrible recording! I was expecting what I heard from Fall To Pieces, and Slither. But the whole album was...was...not good. I give this two stars because - and I hate to say this, because I hate those people who buy a whole CD and only listen to the single(s) - the singles are the only two good songs. Do yourself a favour, skip this one. Get something else. As for me, I was glad I got my Texas Chainsaw Massacre Soundtrack back. Get Guns N Roses, there WAY better. I suggest Appetite For Destruction. My friend ended up buying the Texas Chainsaw Massacre Soundtrack, and I ended up writing a negative review on this site. What a waste of time. Slash is better than this.

Don't buy! Please! Don't Buy! July 4 2004

All the children who buy this muck are misguided Satan worshippers. There is no redeeming value to this garbage. The band glorifies drugs, just read the title "Contraband". It is well known that every member in this blasphemous "band" are drug abusers and support the homosexual lifestyle. I know this because I learned the hard way.
I had the misfortune of buying this distasteful record for my nephew's first communion and I regret it deeply, more than anything before in my life. He plays it often and even recites the evil lyrics. His parents won't take it away from him for they fear he will lash out at them. Please, parents, I urge you to protect your children from this.

Velvet Revolver Contraband--A Kick In The Pants! Jun 26 2004

Contraband--Super Debut Album!!!

I have to say that Velvet Revolver's Contraband IS pure ROCK!! Aggressive, energetic, and HARD!!

If you need to rev yourself up, this will give you a kick in the a**!! Great CD to hear LOUD while crusin' down the highway.

It's the kind of CD that once you hear it all the way through you say to yourself, I gotta hear that again!! Exciting as pure rock can get. It's great to hear guitar solos and Slash does a super job. It has some cool ballads too (great guitars and lyrics).

I never was a big Guns n' Roses fan, but loved Stone Temple Pilots. One thing I can say about GnR though is that as a band they were tight and rocked, it's Axl that turned me off to the band mostly.

Favorite songs are: Headspace, Sucker Train Blues, Do It For The Kids, Set Me Free, Slither, Fall To Pieces, Illegal i Song, Big Machine, You Got No Right, Loving The Alien, Superhuman.

If you have the chance to catch these guys live do it! These songs LIVE would be awesome!! I think the band has big potential....wonder what Axl thinks of it.

Play it loud & play it often!!

Vilma~
