I bought this cookbook based on my fondness for Jamie Oliver's shows on the Food Network, and on some pretty stellar reviews I read online - and it has not disappointed. It's fun and interesting to read, and it has quickly become a go-to book and a favourite in our household. I'm not a very experienced cook or a "foodie", but I've made over 20 recipes from this book already, and every single one came out a hit. It's not only the best food I've ever made, but some of the best I've ever eaten. The recipes are easy to understand and follow, and the ingredients are simple enough for the average home cook. That said, the combination of flavours and ingredients are inspired, interesting and unpredictable, which is what you want in a cookbook in the first place.
The book is written in a way that makes you WANT to cook, and feel confident enough to try any recipe, even the ones that look complicated. There is a picture for every recipe, so you have a clear goal and inspiration, and unlike a lot of books I've used, the dishes actually turned out like the pictures in the book. There are different sections for food types (salads, pasta, risotto, meat, seafood, veg, desserts, etc) and there are lessons and instructions for how to shop for and prepare trickier things, like steak, lobster, squid etc.
I could say more about this book, because I've become such a huge fan. It's really changed the way I cook and eat at home. For anyone who loves to cook, or who wants to learn to cook and needs a boost of confidence, this book will see you through!
