This book was fun to read but also had a good solid murder mystery.
Our sleuth, Olivia Greyson, is the owner of a Cookie Cutter Emporium named the Gingerbread House. It specializes in cookie cutters, cookies, books about cookies...well you get the idea. A boutique store.
Unfortunately, next door is a restaurant, "The Vegetable Plate" owned by a rather over zealous health conscious woman and there is a rivalry that is acrimonious to say the least.
While cleaning up an act of vandalism, Olivia spies and intruder at the Vegetable Plate and almost catches him in the act. The police are alerted.
When a man is stabbed shortly after, Olivia is shocked to learn her brother, Jason is arrested for confessing to the crime. It becomes her mission to solve the crime before her brother gets so entangled in the legal system that he can't get out.
This book had romance, laughter, interesting characters, and an interesting murder mystery to boot. The only thing I would love is if perhaps the Author would add some trivia about actual vintage cookie cutters. I have a feeling they have wonderful tales to tell.

An Entertaining Read, Dec 21 2011

Livie spots an intruder in the business next door and when he later turns up dead, Livie begins an investigation as this case hits a little too close to home. What a great read. This well-layered, page-turning mystery kept me on my toes as I tried to guess who the killer was and every time I thought I knew, the author had me changing directions. I love this great cast, especially Livie who is a spunky and determined adversary. This was delightfully entertaining read with an ending that left promises that I can't wait to read in the next book in this enjoyable series.

OK I get that the protagonist owns a boutique involving cookies and cookie cutters etc., but did every other paragraph have to mention either cookie or cookie cutters? In 80% of this book someone was either eating, talking about or baking cookies. It got a little tiresome. With these types of books there are 3 things you can usually count on:
1. the heroine is going to stick her nose into a murder investigation eventhough the ubiquitous detective/love interest tells her not to.
2. She is going to stumble upon at least one major clue that for one fool reason or another will decide NOT to tell the ubiquitous detective/love interest
3. She will jump to wild conclusions based on nothing more than her intuition.
In this case, Olivia decides that a mysterious woman she saw dancing in the park at midnight is the key to everything.Of couse it turns out to be so.
I have a hard time with the editing/proof reading in some of these books. In one chapter, Oliva decides to eat at Pete's Diner but by the time she arrives there, she is calling it Joe's Diner. She calls her boyfried and tells him to meet her at Pete's Diner then later she recognizes the waitress from Joe's Diner. Is it Joe's Diner or Pete's Diner and why didn't the editor or proof reader catch this? There is another greater editor/proof reader mistake later in the book but it would take forever to describe it. I just hate shoddy editing. I liked the 1st book in this series but didn't like this one as much. May or may not read the next one
