Book Description

Feb. 3 2009
From celebrated children’s-food author Lisa Barnes, Cooking for Baby is a fully illustrated, gorgeous, four-color book that takes parents through the basics of preparing nutritious, delicious (and easy!) meals for your child, from six to eighteen months.

Parents today know that one of the best ways to give a baby a great start in life is with wholesome, homemade foods. While ready-made baby food is a convenience that any new parent can appreciate, feeding everyday fresh foods is the best way to teach a child healthy eating habits and an appreciation for good food from the cradle onward.

The eighty recipes in Cooking for Baby make preparing delicious meals for babies and toddlers a breeze, even for busy parents. The recipes are organized by age, showing how to introduce cereal grains and simple vegetable and fruit purees to your infant at six months, how to move on to chunkier foods by eight or nine months, and how to graduate to real meals for young toddlers of twelve to eighteen months to enjoy along with the entire family. When you see how easy it is, with a few smart tips on preparation and storage, you’ll never go back to the jars.

With Cooking for Baby, your youngster will enjoy a wide variety of fresh and interesting foods for a very happy and healthy beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars 1st time mom...loving it! March 24 2010
Format:Paperback
I love this cookbook not only because of its gorgeous illustrations, the recipes are simple and creative. The writing is straightforward; very easy to understand. It does not overload you with information yet it has everything I need to feel comfortable and confident to start this new phase of my baby's development. I also love her nutritional facts on the side of each recipe as well as great suggestions to make introducing solids more enjoyable for my baby and for me. I strongly recommend this book for 1st time moms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but could be more inclusive May 27 2010
Format:Paperback
As a newbie to making my own baby food I have found this to be very helpful. There is more information in it than just recipes and the illustrations are great. The only piece I find lacking is sometimes certain food items (eg. broccoli) are not featured except in chapters for older children (DD is 6 months) and I am sure I could introduce it in a different form at an earlier stage and that is not provided. Luckily I can figure most stuff out on my own with the basics this book has provided. Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book Jan. 21 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I have not yet made the recipes, but this seems like a good book. I also bought "the best homemade baby food on the planet" book, and I think I will prefer that one (it has soooo much and is very appealing to read), but this book seems to have some different and interesting recipes. I would buy again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice recipes but a little complicated Sept. 7 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
Was hoping for simple ideas but some of these are a lot of work! Make sure you have lots of time for some of these. A few of the first ones are good though. Not bad overall.

This book is amazing! The recipes are simple. The pictures are enticing. And the food is actually good! My daughter loves each and every one of them (and so does my hubby!).

I would definitely recommend this to all moms.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, great lay out Sept. 25 2014

Good book to get started and try lots, as in lots, of combinations. Simple and clear for non-cooks like me! My son is a truly adventurous non picky eater so I never needed to do purees, and skipped right onto the more serious recipes based on his ability to take in dairy and other things. Highly recommend especially for tricks in getting veggies into non-veggie dishes. Also, I appreciated the storage tips for food safety on most of the recipes. The 12-18 months section was very useful as the dishes are for the whole family as well.
