Corner Gas is a comedy series that answers many of the questions we have about small town life. What would life be like if you lived in the middle of nowhere? What would you do with your days? How long would it take before you go nuts?
And most importantly it's a series that makes you laugh, and laugh, and laugh.
The Corner Gas television series is produced by an award winning Canadian team comprised of Executive Producers Brent Butt (Just for Laughs, Comedy Now - Funnypants) and David Storey (The Sean Cullen Show, Blackfly) of Vancouver's 335 Productions and Virginia Thompson (Incredible Story Studio) of Saskatchewan's Vérité Films. The Supervising Producer is Mark Farrell (This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Made in Canada). Brent Butt is an award-winning comedian, David Storey is an award-winning director, Virginia Thompson is an award-winning producer and Mark Farrell is an award-winning writer.

Superb Canadian Comedy for Everyone,
By Mohamed A. (Toronto, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Corner Gas: Season One (2DVD) (DVD)
I don't watch TV that much nowadays, but about a year ago I caught this show, Corner Gas, on CTV and couldn't stop laughing. After catching a couple of more episodes I was hooked. This is comedy at its finest, and the fact that it's Canadian is just a bonus. After finishing the year with averages of 1 million+ per episode (an achievement for a Canadian show), the DVD set is finally out and it's worth every dollar. What is the show about? Well, without spoiling anything, here's the premise (from cornergas.com): "Corner Gas is a comedy series that answers many of the questions we have about small town life. What would life be like if you lived in the middle of nowhere? What would you do with your days? How long would it take before you go nuts?" If this sounds remotely funny to you, then don't hesitate in giving this show a shot. The beauty about this show is that it definitely appeals to everyone (Canadian or not), and to every age group (everyone in my family watches it). So if you are looking for a smart, witty, well-written and family-friendly comedy, this one fits the bill. As for the DVD set itself: not bad at all. All 13 episodes from season 1 are present in this 2-DVD set, in excellent quality (video and audio). You'll get some extra material too: 3 episode commentaries, interview footage, deleted scenes, outtakes, and DVD-ROM elements. Haven't checked out the extras myself yet, but for the price of the set, I am more than happy to just get the 13 episodes on DVD. Favourite episode has to be The Taxman, but almost all the episodes are as funny (Pilates, World's Biggest, etc.) Season 2 is now on CTV (Tuesdays) and Comedy Network (Saturdays)... can't wait for the DVD set of that season too.

A hidden gem now revealed!,
This review is from: Corner Gas: Season One (2DVD) (DVD)
For anyone not fortunate enough to live where "Corner Gas" is aired (which I think is only in Canada) please treat yourself and check out the first season on DVD.It's a quirky look at life in Saskatchewan, in the fictitious prairie burg of Dog River, which is little more than a wide place in the road. It could as easily be any small town in America, complete with the everybody-all-in-your-biz syndrome, the travails of a newcomer trying to fit in, rabid rivalry with neighboring towns, creative ways to handle outsiders passing through who criticize the area, and hilarious chaos when something happens to disrupt the routine they are all comfortable with. You come to understand why they really wouldn't want to live anywhere else or change a thing, all while laughing your head off. Really great stuff, and recently voted Canada's best television show. Sharp, dry wit, no laugh track (you not only won't miss it, you'll love not hearing it), and populated with characters who are all just plain hoots. Some inside Canadian humor, but as an American living in Canada I find that I get most of it; some cameos by Canadian sports or entertainment personalities have to be identified by my husband, but not knowing who the person is usually doesn't ruin the joke. Try it! I really think you'll enjoy it.
