Now here is history you can get your teeth into,
By
This review is from: Coronation Street, Vol. 1: 1960-61 (DVD)
Since writing my review (below)I have managed to actually see a Canadian release of this dvd. It appears the BBC is going to hold back in Canada making available only 8 episodes in this 1960-61 release. Canadians will just have to hope the other 8 (on the Brit releases) will be available some time. In any case, if you are a fan... BUY THESE.....
I was lucky enough to purchase this 2 dvd set in England (region 2 dvd) a couple of years back.... and for those die hard Corrie fans this is the start of the Holy Grail. The Brit dvd version gives 8 episodes per year so this dvd set should have 16 in total. So for any addicts out there who have only ever heard references of Elsie Tanner (the street's first "loose woman") or Ena Sharples (about as hard as they come)you now have the opportunity to view them in the flesh. Don't let the black and white episodes put you off. As with any good writing turned into tv it's the stories that have kept Corrie on the tube now for 49 years. And yes, you get to see Ken Barlow in episode number 1... with Emily Bishop not that far behind a few episodes later. And even though you might feel that 8 episodes per year is only a taste it is a chance for most people to catch up from day 1. Stay tuned; if BBC follows the UK dvd releases there will be 14 more double dvds to come... all the way up to 1989. Enjoy!

This review is from: Coronation Street, Vol. 1: 1960-61 (DVD)
This is a great trip down memory lane, I was only 11 when Coronation St was first broadcast, but it seemed like yesterday when I watched this. Great to see all the old characters too. It is in black and white, and the quality isn't that brilliant sometimes, but these are old films, and somehow it doesn't really matter. A great buy.
