Pretty lame, and actually surprisingly tame, Dec 24 2008

For what it advertises itself as being, Cougar Club is a pretty lame and surprisingly tame sex comedy that doesn't deliver. Jason Jurman and Warren Kole star as Spence and Hogan respectively; two graduate friends that get a job at a law firm run by a complete sleezeball (Joe Mantegna). As a way to make some cash, the two come up with a plan to put together horny young guys and horny older women, and that's about the gist of Cougar Club. Nearly everything in the flick is pretty routine and predictable, but this wouldn't be so bad were it not for the fact that the laughs just don't come as often as they really should. Also, for being billed as a sex comedy, you'll see funnier gags in any single one of the American Pie movies than what you'll find here. There's a bevy of talent and familiar faces abound in Cougar Club as well, including Faye Dunaway (yes, Faye Dunaway), The Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco, the still gorgeous former Bond girl Izabella Scorupco, Joanie "Chyna" Laurer, Jon Polito, Loretta Devine, Carrie Fisher, Mad TV vet Mo Collins, and Joely Fisher; all of whom are relatively wasted in their parts. All in all, Cougar Club may be worth a look for a few laughs or if hot older women are your thing, but other than that, you're better off elsewhere.

Entertain a cougar!, May 25 2009

For the few dozen or so people who may not be aware, a "cougar" is an older woman who dates / goes after a younger man (men). It is a trend in society that is picking up steam and perhaps the most famous present-day example would be Demi Moore hooking up with Ashton Kutcher.
The present movie is a party movie / comedy about a pair of guys who just graduated from college. Trying to garner the necessary funds for grad school, they hatch an ambitious plan to make some $$. They advertise to young men in search of older women that they have an off-kilter dating sight just for them. The men pay substantial membership fees to meet up with "Cougars" who have free memberships. The plan becomes a huge success!
The "topless menus" feature is "one giant leap for mankind" (as Neal Armstrong would say). It's an innovation that I'm hoping will catch on and allow movie companies to join the 21st century. Also, there is a decent amount of nudity in the movie itself as well. Only problem is that it's of female extras; we never see the primary women strip down. Oh, well.
If you're looking for a party movie which centers around a societal trend that's actually happening all around us, then this is a DVD that's bound to offer you a sexy good time. Go Cougars!!

Lame, April 11 2009

This is the lamest movie I have ever seen. I was bored with the movie only 10 minutes into it but kept watching it to see if it had any redeeming features - it didn't. I couldn't care less about any of the characters and the jokes were crass and I didn't laugh, chuckle or smile at any point throughout the movie. Lame lame lame. Don't waste your money or your time.
