Product Description

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 4–Part alphabet book, part catalog of species, part treasury of facts, this book is sure to delight young dinosaur lovers. In fact, the hardest part for librarians is not deciding whether or not to purchase it, but where to catalog it. A time line on the inside front cover shows the eras of the Earth, and then readers are off on a silly slide through an alphabet of dinosaurs. (And yes, there is a dinosaur for every letter, right down to Xuanhanosaurus, Yangchuanosaurus, and Zizhongosaurus.) Each page features an alliterative question along the lines of the title, accompanied by an appropriately wacky illustration, a pronunciation guide, and information about the species' era, range, size, and diet. Plant packs in an astonishing array of dinosaurs, from old favorites like Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor to lesser-known varieties such as the spiky Kentrosaurus and the two-foot long Wannanosaurus. This title is ideal for young dinosaur aficionados who yearn for something new.–Kathleen Kelly MacMillan, Carroll County Public Library, MD

5.0 out of 5 stars Kristi Bernard@ CLCD, Jun 12 2011

When your hear the word dinosaur do you think of the alphabet? Of course not. But you soon will. When a little boy visits a museum filled with dinosaurs bones he asks "Look at all these dinosaurs! I wonder what they could do?" When young readers turn the pages they will wonder if a Anchiecertops could be an acrobat, or if a Gallimimus could play golf. I would like to know if a Kentrosaurus could fly a kite. Plant doesn't hold back. Each page is colorfully illustrated with dinosaurs attempting to do things that young readers do everyday. Not only will readers enjoy the illustrations but each page has bits of information about the each dinosaur. Kids will learn how to pronounce the names of these glorious creatures as well as where their homes were, how long they were and whether or not they liked meat or plants in their daily diets. This is a great way for young readers to be introduced to the world of the dinosaur with a little twist.

My 22-month old daughter was not particularly interested in dinosaurs before this book but now she is and knows a lot of the names. The alphabet letters are easy and clearly marked and the illustrations are delightful and straightforward, no confusing background illustration that you sometimes find in toddler picture books. I'm buying it for Christmas presents for all my kid's friends and cousins.

My grandson is 3 and a half and obsessed with dinosaurs! Because it's also the time to learn his alphabet, this book does the job. Large, colorful illustrations keep his interest.
