Book Description

September 1997
War cares little for the troubles of the aristocracy. As a terrible new weapon obliterates the age of courtly battle, an intelligent but plain princess and her companions--an addled young inventor and a kleptomaniac firebird--find themselves forced into a battle for survival in a suddenly very deadly world.

1.0 out of 5 stars shoot me please! May 28 2000
By Jon
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I am a big big forgotten realms fan and well it pains me to say how much this book sucks. Not only is the writing just hard to read its content is boring as well......and if I wanted to read a book about a frickin lazer I would buy a sci-fiction book. Its really too bad that this book was so poor because the four previous nobles books were great.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst book I ever read Oct 20 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I read all of the Realms novels. I now wish I didn't. This was without a doubt the worst book I have ever opened. Where most books take me one or two days to read, I was reading this one for over a month. It almost made me wish I was illiterate by the end of it. The plot (if you can call it that) is slow to get moving, and the characters are more boring than watching grass grow. Stay away from this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible!! Mar 23 1999
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have read almost all of the FR novels that have been written to date. This is without a doubt the worst one. Every other novel in the setting has been great. Some start slow, but they are always good. This one, I read and read, and kept waiting for it to get good. One month later (and a couple of good books in the middle to break up the boredom) and I was at the end. It just never got good. The only reason I bothered finishing it, is that I kept waiting for something to happen. Without a doubt one of the most boring books I have ever read. If there were negative stars to give out, I would do it for this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun ride
It wasn't quite what I expected from a forgotten realms novel. Thing happend in a tiny place of no outside importance. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Not your typical FR book.
Although not quite as polished as his Greyhawk trilogy, I still found this book to be quite enjoyable. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars A great tragedy!
I only have one thing to say. Wizards of the Coast is destroying what TSR built!

4.0 out of 5 stars FR goes to a Renaissance fair
I'll agree, this is not a typical FR novel. If you've never heard of the Italian Renaissance, the de Medici family, or Leonardo da Vinci, you could not fully appreciate this book. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars This book doesn't deserve the Forgotten Realms Logo on it.
This book felt like it was written as a generic fantasy book, not set in any known world, and then a few minor things were changed so that they could publish under the FR Logo. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Rich detail, humor, characters, events.
Maybe Forgotten Realms series readers aren't seeing what they expect. I admit to being a Paul Kidd fan, from books and periodicals. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading only for geographical insights.
This is the kind of book that only Forgotten Realms enthusiasts who HAVE to read ALL the FR books would read. Anyone else not totally obsessed should stay away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fine piece by Paul Kidd. Sparkling funny fantasy.
This is another example of what fantasy ought to be, but rarely is. There is just the right mix of humor, action, romance, and magic to make the book charming, but no one element... Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Yech! What was that and what did it leave in my mouth?
Ugh! What a waste of time. My usual 2 day read was elongated into a 3 weeker. I left this book in the bathroom to skim through during my daily constitutionals. Read more
