Product Description

From Amazon.com

As a producer, Jerry Bruckheimer makes movies for guys, mostly action films like Top Gun and Gone in 60 Seconds. The ones he makes that feature women, such as Flashdance and now Coyote Ugly, broaden their appeal with a fondness for "strong women." For Bruckheimer, that means self-determined, attractive women who don't need men to get what they want. Is there anything sexier than that? In Coyote Ugly, the charming young waif Piper Perabo stars as Violet, a New Jersey waitress who moves to New York to make it big as a songwriter. She has absolutely no idea how the music business works, relying instead on her faith in her own abilities. In order to make ends meet, she gets a job in a bar called Coyote Ugly, where the bartenders are scantily clad women who dance on the bar and order around their mostly male clientele. Really, they are strippers who don't have to take off their clothes. In fact, the owner (Maria Bello) orders them to enact the first rule of strip clubs: "Appear available but never be available." Bruckheimer is smart enough to focus on the naive girl instead of the seamier side of the story, following her as she realizes her dream and picks up a disposable but nice man along the way. Further "empowering" the female figures in the film, Zoe (Tyra Banks), the bartender whom Violet is replacing, leaves in order to go to law school. See? They're as smart as they are sexy! Then there's John Goodman, who turns in an absolutely charming performance as Violet's concerned father. This is a sweet and inoffensive film as long as you don't think too much about it. --Andy Spletzer

5.0 out of 5 stars One Of My Favorite Movies, July 10 2004

At first I thought this movie was for the men, not so, this is a definite chic flick (Although the men will enjoy it too, for obvious reasons). I really enjoyed the story line. This is one of those movies that I will gladly watch over and over.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coyote Beautiful, Jun 19 2011
This review is from: Coyote Ugly (DVD)
I'll admit that I purchased this movie solely on the basis of wanting to view some of Piper Perabo's earlier work. Is it possible not to fall in love with this very talented actress. It is surprising that Piper's performance didn't offer a springboard to more mainstream movies - although Lost & Delirious, her follow-up film was a gem, but little seen. For those wishing to view Perabo's early work (pre Covert Affairs), this is a must buy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Coyote Ugly - An interesting movie for teens!, Jun 5 2004
By

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Coyote Ugly (DVD)
"Coyote Ugly" is an interesting movie that falls more into the lines of a teenager type love story than what I had originally thought it would be. Billed as an "intoxicating sexy comedy" from producer Jerry Bruckheimer, this movie more or less falls short of that billing in that it relies more heavily on the "girl with a long shot makes it big" theme that has been highly prevalent in previous movies, leaving one with the overwhelming impression of been there, seen that.

Performance wise; stars such as Piper Parabo, John Goodman and Maria Bello all do a great job with the script they had. I'm more or less surprised that Maria Bello hasn't become a bigger star as she definitely has it in her and she's an incredibly beautiful woman.

This is the only movie from director David McNally II that I've seen so far and it would be hard to make a definitive judgment on his movie making talents based on this one movie that I didn't find particularly wonderful. Hopefully down the road he'll find a better script to work with.

The Premise:

As stated above, this is a teenager type movie about Violet (Piper Parabo) who moves from rural New York to the Big Apple to make it big as a song writer. Along the way she encounters the standard fare of difficulties of trying to get into that business and finds that she must take on a job at a bar known as the "Coyote Ugly" to try to make ends meet until she can get that "one big break."

Overall, I'd say this is an interesting rental more than anything else. {ssintrepid}
