Product Description

For centuries, logic puzzles have entertained, inspired and educated kids of all ages. Studies show these engaging "brain teasers" provide unsurpassed benefits to the body and mind, increasing manual dexterity, mathematical abilities and overall intellectual agility.

Crafting Wood Logic Puzzles provides plans and instructions for crafting 18 of the most popular manual puzzles. Projects range from traditional "put together/take apart" games like pentominoes and soma cubes to more sophisticated "unlocking" head-scratchers, such as the Burr and Heart Box puzzles. Readers will also learn specialized cutting, drilling, sanding, gluing and finishing techniques that make crafting wooden puzzles possible.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book to learn how to make wood puzzles, Feb 5 2010
By
This review is from: Crafting Wood Logic Puzzles: 18 Three-dimensional Games for the Hands and Mind (Paperback)
Woodworking doesn't have to be all about making furniture. I was looking for a hobby that I could do in my spare time using my hands. I bought some woodworking equipment but was then faced with the daunting task of what to build.

This book helped find an answer. The projects inside are very well illustrated, and it gives all the steps needed to start you building wooden logic puzzles. I must admit the first one I built was pretty bad in construction. But the more I worked at it, the second, third and forth one got substantially better. Now I put them together just for the fun of it. The cost is minimal for equipment.

Depending on if you have a good wood supplier in your area, all you need is a Table Saw, and glue. For some of the more advanced projects you also need a dado blade. Make up some of the jigs described in the book, and you are off.

There is nothing more fun than having a puzzle on your coffee table and getting asked what it is. You take it apart and hand it to them, so they know it must go back together.

This is a really great book. It has plans for a couple of sleds for the table saw and 18 puzzles. It has materials lists, easy to use instructions with solutions to all puzzles and lots of helpful tips. Highly Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect excuse to spend time in the shed, July 14 2008

This book has proved to provide both interesting and in some cases challenging wood working exercises.

The resulting puzzles are a big hit with friends and family - the hints for presents are mounting.

Its also a great way to use up all those scraps of wood I've been hording but haven't been able to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars wood puzzles, Dec 3 2008
By Karl T. Newcomer - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Crafting Wood Logic Puzzles: 18 Three-dimensional Games for the Hands and Mind (Paperback)
I've made three puzzles so far. Making them is a bit of a puzzle in itself, as you can imagine. All were done using a bandsaw. They all worked. I did'nt have to redue anything, so the plans were acurate. I made the twenty minute puzzle first and passed a few to freinds and family. I was surprized with the response. They could'nt leave them alone. So far, this book has been well worth it.
