Product Description

Review

"...this groundbreaking book successfully translates an approach previously only available in their workshops..." (Voluntary Sector, February 2003)

Eugene R. Tempel, executive director, Indiana Univeristy Center on Philanthropy

This is not an ordinary book on board development. Katherine Tyler Scott focuses her work on concepts of 'trust' in trusteeship, exploring the meaning of both 'being held in trust' and 'holding in trust.' This book will aid organizations in probing beneath the surface of board work to build leadership based on the convergence of personal and organizational values.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Executive Directors, Jun 11 2001

WOW, This is a wonderful book that lays out how a non-profit board should work. Creating Caring & Capable Boards delivers a simple outline for preparing a board for leadership and evaluating an organization through out its lifetime. It has helped me (an executive director of a non-profit) objectify my board's behavior and develop a strategy for dealing with them. I plan to order 9 copies and send it to each member.

5.0 out of 5 stars Depth education at work, April 2 2009
By Joy M. Wright "senior center director" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Creating Caring and Capable Boards: Reclaiming the Passion for Active Trusteeship (Paperback)
The examples and advice really hit home with my limited experience with boards of trustees. She made an impression where depth education is concerned. Depth education is a new term for me, but the more the authored opened up the meaning, the more sense it made.
I have a board of ten trustees that I had wanted to educate about what it means to sit on a board, a misnomer if there ever was one. "Creating Caring and Capable Boards" has given me a springboard from which I can assemble a training and bonding plan to unify and give focus to my trustees.
