The day Sterling Edwards watched an artist paint an entire sky with three deft brushstrokes was the day he committed to trading his tiny oil brushes and photorealistic style in favor of big, bold strokes of watercolor. In the years since, he's developed not only a wonderfully fresh, luminous painting style, but also an approach that takes the intimidation out of this beautiful but often-mystifying medium. In this book, he shares both.
Whether you're dipping into the medium for the first time or you're a watercolor devotee on a quest for clearer color and more personal statements, this book will help you make the most of the time you spend with brush in hand.

Great book for beginner to intermediate level,

A really nice book if you want to learn to paint landscapes in a loose style. Useful guides in the techniques to paint different elements of the landscape - rocks, trees, water, skies, etc. I like the author's style, so I like the book. I think it is important to learn from instructors, whose style you like. One drawback of the book - the author uses a very weird color palette with color names I've never heard from a brand I've never heard of. Of course he recommends buying them, but I don't think it would be a good idea to learn to paint with such a non-standard palette. But if you know how to mix your colors and ignore that part, the book is great.

BEST book on watercolor,
By Judy Titta - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Creating Luminous Watercolor Landscapes (Hardcover)
I have about 12-15 watercolor "how-to" books in my personal library, purchased by me or passed on by friends. At my suggestion, I received this book as a gift. It is DEFINITELY the best of the bunch. Mr. Edwards easy-to-follow approach (including a DVD) is wonderful, with lots of step by step exercises; i.e. how to do rocks, skies, trees etc. Many other books attempt to do the same, but none of the ones I own or have seen come close to this one. I've been struggling with watercolors for over a year. FINALLY I'm "getting" it.... thanks to this great book! This is a "must have" for any beginning or intermediate watercolorist.

I've been a fan of Sterling Edwards' work for several years now. This book lived up to what I'd hope and expected. The beautiful step by step illustrations with the easy to understand instructions makes this a priceless resource for your watercolor library. My only regret is that I didn't have this book sooner!

Gives lots of instructions and tips for watercolor painting. I'm going through it like I am taking lessons and painting each lesson-learning as I go. Beautiful pictures and great instructions make this a helpful learning tool. I love this book.
