4.0 out of 5 stars Rigid Heddle Weaving, Mar 4 2010
By Janice Woodland (Burnaby, BC Can) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am taking weaving lessons, and I was intrigued when I saw this book as it describes making creative fabrics with a table loom. What the publisher failed to mention is that the loom is question is a rigid heddle loom which means that the fabrics are all woven with a plain weave. I have a 4 shaft table loom, so I anticipated having more flexibility in the patterns. In that sense, I was a little disappointed. On the other hand, the book does illustrate ways in which "alternative" fibre (from fantasy yarns to plastic bags) can be woven creatively. The book is beautifully photographed with excellent detail of the woven projects. If you have a rigid heddle loom, or just enjoy plain weave, and have an urge to explore weaving with unusual materials, you will likely find this book inspiring.
