1.0 out of 5 stars Zen MX Lite MP3 Player Feb 24 2011

Started out okay. When I went to upgrade the firmware as Zen indicated I should. The unit shut down totally. Now it is not responsive any longer. Using the reset is useless. So now I basically have a unit that will not turn on no matter what I do. The computers will not recognize it.

I looked on the Zen forum and found that this is not uncommon, and once it does happen, there is no coming back from the dead.

This is the second Zen I have owned and found this one to be a piece of junk. If you stop the player for a few minutes, you lose the place you were at. You have to set a bookmark each time you pause or you would have to start over again. My Zen M held the spot for even a few hours, but this unit a couple of minutes and once it shuts down, your place is gone.

If you have not already bought one look elsewhere.

I have contacted Zen Service and will update once I get a response one way or the other. By the way the unit is just over ONE MONTH old.....

UPDATE:
As expected, Creative service has not replied other then to send an email thanking me for contacting them and that someone will get in touch with me. Other postings on the net have also indicated this sort of service and many have wondered if Creative is starting to go down hill. Based on my experience, absolutely. There are so many choices in MP3 players that there is no reason to deal with a company that does not stand behind their product.

Two weeks have gone by with no reponse from Creative customer support. I sent another email to them and got another thank you for getting in touch with them, and that someone will be in touch with me within 24 hours or so.....Let's see.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed... Mar 22 2011

I had owned an 8GB Zen before I purchased this, and I absolutely loved the machine. So, I decided to try another Creative Labs model. The original Creative Labs player I had before had great features, a FULL-SIZED SD card slot, and outstanding sound quality. So, I purchased the better version of the model I had enjoyed for at least 2 years. I got the new 16GB Zen MX unit in the mail, loaded it with music, and it ran beautifully for a couple of weeks. Then, it developed an incredibly irritating habit. During regular playback, and regardless of the battery's charge level, the unit would shut off, then restart. Then, it would scan the player's memory, and THEN it would rebuild the music library. After it took a couple minutes getting itself back together, it would continue playing where the track had stopped. This happened more and more as time went by. Finally, I sent it out for an RMA after it had shut down, and went through the reboot cycle as I mentioned above. Except this time, the player had been running for less than 5 minutes. So, I'm now waiting for the replacement for the broken machine to return. I would REALLY like to be using that player right about now. It's just too bad the new models are apparently garbage. I don't know what I'm buying when this one undoubtedly dies earlier than it should. I've already been through several Sony players, and several Sansa (SanDisk) machines, and this was the one I hoped would be the reliable replacement. Apparently, I'm going to have to stop buying anything from Creative Labs, as well. I certainly won't be buying ANOTHER one of these chunks of garbage.

The negative: I bought this player due to the great price point for 16g and I'd owned a 4g player
without any problems until it finally died.I have to agree with previous posts that this player
goes thru some isssues with rebuliding. When I first turned it on and began building my library it went thru a process
of scanning itself and then rebuliding the library over and over. It has since stopped doing that- well, with less
frequency. I noticed that this player also turns itself on when charging; at which point,
I turn it off, but it has been known to restart not having taken a charge from the wall. I would recommend charging it only from a wall
socket. No problems since charging from wall lately. I only connect to the PC to move or remove music.

The positive: I like the drag and drop feature of my mp3 music. I like not having to convert my music to itunes.
I like the small size. Honestly, I'd still buy it again due to the price point. If in the future it's a dud, then I'll send it back for a replacement.
