photos cute, but instructions too complicated,
By Mickey (Vancouver, BC Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots, and More! (Hardcover)
The photography used in this book is super cute. Great for ideas. However, the instructions (presented in both diagrams and written abbreviations) I found too complicated for the type of dolls these were. That, plus I think there are errors in the patterns - or I don't understand the instuctions, but I've found other books much better written. If you're a beginner, this isn't a great book. If you're more advance, and can figure stuff out, you can use the book for ideas...

Overcomplicated,
This review is from: Creepy Cute Crochet: Zombies, Ninjas, Robots, and More! (Hardcover)
I bought this book to give to my sister so she could use it to learn to crochet. Bad idea. After reading the instructions I found that they were much too complicated for the simple toys they were for. The pictures and ideas are great but the instructions are lacking. I gave up trying to follow the head pattern and made my own, as well as the cthulu wings and a bunch of other accessories for the dolls. You also have to flip to the very back of the book whenever you need to follow the basic head or body or arm patterns. This is somewhat annoying when you need to go to a different page for a line or two and then switch back again. I can understand this saves space in the book and everything is so similar it follows the same pattern but it could have been done better.Overall: Good ideas. It inspired me to make my own variety of Chibi (insert character here). The pattern is overcomplicated for a simple doll and a pain to follow. Good for experienced crocheters who can adapt to make their own pattern. Terrible for new crocheters who are trying to learn from this book or using this for beginning patterns.
