This book is so very useful. It has many different techniques such as buttonhole making, bead crochet, blocking, and making gauge swatches. All of the basic stiches are included such as single crochet as are more decorative techniques like making braids, edgings, or cords.
This book is small and spiral, so you can carry it with you if you're working on an unfamiliar project and then flip to the page you need as a reference.
You'll use this book.

A must-have reference for beginner and experienced alike!, Dec 3 2002
This review is from: The Crocheter's Companion (Spiral-bound)
I have crocheted all my life. Until I received this book, I never ventured further than the basic stitches or trims. With it's clear illustrations and easy to follow instructions, I've been able to venture further than my normal "basic" crochet and become creative. I now combine it in many of my pieces: both in sewing and knitting, and even got brave and crocheted my first full vest. The book features finishing techniques and instructions for multi-color crochet, filet crochet, Irish Crochet, Bead crochet, motifs, granny squares, tassels, trims and edgings just to name a few. The sections on definitions and symbols are beautifully done. And there is a wonderful chart on comparative hook sizes in US, UK and metric sizes. The book explains yarn sizes and substitutions in an easy to understand manner, as well. There are also many Hints & Tips scattered throughout the book that help add lots of *inspiration*. In my humble opinion, this 6th book in the Companion series is one any fiber worker should not be without. And it's a great size to pop into your bag and take along with your project.

ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE!, July 19 2004
This review is from: The Crocheter's Companion (Spiral-bound)
I bought this small book and tucked inside my crochet bag that contains the current project I am working on,,
( I have a knit project bag also and have the same book only the knitters companion in this also,,,)
This really is an absolute MUST own, it is clearly written as well as an easy visual " how to" book ,,,that tho be a small book,,,,is of great merit amongst my (enlarging) crochet library.
It is a wonderful carry along when traveling,( and of COURSE one simply MUST take a project along when they travel or how else could a person survive the amount of delays that can take place,,,and,,even look a that in a positive light,,,, as more time to get that stitching project done??) See how taking up some of the great needlearts such as crochet and knitting can help your patience level in a very stressful world?? ( just a personal thought of mine, had to throw in ,,,,)
I use the Donna Koolers' Encylopedia of Crochet as I use the Vogue knitters " bible" at home, , but both are far too large to tuck into my bag, and it always seems like I need to know something when I am away from my larger reference books!
This book is a great little blessing , portable and an enormous help for those of us who need to know various ways to work techniques,,,,,,I dont leave home without it! ( not even to a doctor's appointment!!!)
GREAT BOOK!
