The series starts to live up to the concept,

Lately I've been reading sequels of books that I wasn't entirely gung-ho on. And it has been incredibly rewarding! While I'd Tell You I Love You didn't fully live up to the promise of the spy school concept (in my opinion, at least), Cross My Heart was fantastic. Finally the spy-girl sophomores have a challenge worthy of them- possible traitors in their own school!This book had a great mix of humor and action, with just the right shake of romance thrown in for good measure. I felt so sorry for Cammie as she comes to terms with exactly what she has signed herself up for- a life of deception and paranoia. And yet, somehow I ended up laughing on almost every page as she and her roommates/sidekicks, Bex, Liz and Macey make their way through life with the help of a few extra gadgets (sign me up for a Boy-to-English translator, please!) I don't know if Cammie is really cut out for the spying life, though, because she seems to have a few too many regrets about what she's giving up. We'll have to see what happens in future books. Cross My Heart was an extremely entertaining read. I'm so happy that the series gets better!

She first stole our hearts in Ally Carter's I'D TELL YOU I LOVE YOU, BUT THEN I'D HAVE TO KILL YOU. Ms. Carter's second novel, CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY, is a fast-paced Gallagher Girls sequel that you won't be able to put down.In the first novel, Cammie falls for Josh, a regular boy from the village who crashes her final exam. CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY begins as Cammie is debriefed about her ex-boyfriend, aka, The Subject. She wonders if he even remembers her, if she'll ever see him again, or if she even wants to. She promises her mother, the headmistress of Gallagher, that she's finished with lying and sneaking around, unless under cover, of course, and that she'll never let a boy compromise her judgment again. Ready to focus on her classes, it's an easy promise to make. But it's not long before Cammie realizes how difficult that promise will be to keep. She overhears her mother tell her Covert Operations teacher, "Cammie doesn't know anything." They discuss something called Blackthorne. Her mother tells the girls of the academy that the East Wing is closed due to contamination by fumes from the chemistry labs. But Cammie knows there's no way that's possible. "There is no ventilation access from the chem labs to the East Wing," she says. Cammie and her friends are forced to launch their own covert operation to discover more about the fifteen male spies who have moved in as guests of the academy. She wonders why she is continually paired with Zach, and how he knows so much about her and the secret passages within the academy. When the academy's security is breached, knowing who you can trust becomes a matter of life and death. If you haven't read Ally Carter's Gallagher Girls novels, you are seriously missing out on a fabulous experience. CROSS YOUR HEART AND HOPE TO SPY was every bit as good as Ms. Carter's first Gallagher Girls novel. Her third book, DON'T JUDGE A GIRL BY HER COVER, is due to be released in June. In I'D TELL YOU I LOVE YOU, BUT THEN I'D HAVE TO KILL YOU, readers were welcomed to the Gallagher Academy, an all-girls school that is known for its emphasis on academics. What outsiders don't know is the school is actually training the young ladies to become spies. Gallagher Girls are trained in the martial arts, taught "real" history, learn political secrets, and are multilingual.The second book, CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO SPY, the second book in the series, picks up shortly after the first book. Cammie Morgan and the other Gallagher students know how their school operates and are used to it being an all-girl campus. When guys from the Blackthorne Institute come to share their studies and their teachers, some of the girls get distracted while others get suspicious. Cammie is a bit of both camps. She appreciates the fact that the guy spies are smart and savvy, but she doesn't trust them. She kind of got off on the wrong foot with Zach, one of the spy-guys, and she can't stop thinking about Josh. She also thinks her new schoolmates are hiding something -- and they might not be the only ones. Old photographs and overheard conversations make Cammie question her father's schooling and spy work. Will she ever find out what really happened to him? When push comes to shove, the Gallagher Girls are here to save the day - and maybe have some fun along the way. CROSS MY HEART will please fans of the first Gallagher Girls novel. All of the books have a fun mix of spies, lies, and romance that pleases tweens, teens, and adults. Seriously, Ally Carter has out done herself with "Cross My Heart and Hope to Spy"!I started reading the book around 7 or 8 PM and stay up until 12 PM finishing it. I could not put it down even though I told myself many times, "Put down the book. It will be there tomorrow." It was just too addicting. "Cross My Heart..." picks off where Ally Carter's first book "I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You" (now called LYKY) ends. After a hard winter break, Cammie's back at Gallagher Academy. She's still hurting from a break-up she did not want to happen and worried about CoveOp, her most challenging class. Loads of action happens during the 250 or so pages. I wish I could tell you more, but I'd ruin the entire book for you guys. My mind is still reeling from finishing the book. It leaves you with some answers but even more questions. If you haven't gotten a hold of the book yet, GO NOW!!!! 11 of 14 people found the following review helpful

Like the first book about the Gallagher Academy For Exceptional Young Women (I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You), this one is absolutely fantastic. There's a lot of action, laughs, covert ops and spy lingo. Of course, there are boy issues to sort through too. Cammie's a really great character: fun, lovable and relatable. I loved this book, and can't wait for the next one (there is going to be a next one, right?)!
