Cross-Training For Dummies is like having your own personal trainer! You pick a cross-training plan to follow (I picked the Weight Loss plan, but you can also choose from a "Base Fitness" plan, Athletic plan, or "Mix-n-Match" plan). Each plan tells you how much time you should spend on cardio and strength training, which exercises (cardio and strength training) you should try, and how much time you should spend on flexibility and power. Then, you just turn to the chapters they note to get a description of the exercise you should do! If you are already involved in a sport, you can also find exercises that will help you with that sport. Plus, there are a bunch of charts you can use to track your progress in your general health, body measurements, or weight training.

This book would be good for someone who is new to fitness and can be used as a reference to someone that already has a fitness lifestyle. It will answer alot of questions you may have but don't want to ask. I highly recommend this one!

Put the fun back into exercise with Cross-Training for Dummies Feb. 2 2011
By Bob Weinstein, Lt. Colonel, US Army, Ret. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
We live in a society that is too focused on getting partial aspects instead of the whole concept. Cross-Training for Dummies not only puts the fun back into a workout but also gives to all you need to get a complete body workout without all the fancy equipment. We spend too much time indoors as it is. Cross-Training for Dummies gives you all you need to take your workout outdoors although many of the exercises can be done in the comfort of your living room. This book uses the one piece of equipment you always have with you, your body. I highly recommend this book.

A fantastic book for anyone who is seeking an exercise routine to fit their own particular interests and needs. March 13 2014

I have been into physical fitness all my life. Even at my advanced age I still workout hard seven days a week doing various exercises. This is the reason I purchased this book (Cross-Training for Dummies by Tony Ryan). I have always loved circuit type of fitness programs that work the entire body and provide a total fitness approach. Even though I have tried numerous fitness program such as The U.S. Navy SEAL workouts, Cross Fit programs, body weight strength, tactical aerobics, boxing workouts, martial arts workouts and numerous other exercise routines, I am always looking for different ways to improve my overall fitness level. This book is filled with great ideas and suggestions to achieve whatever fitness goals you are seeking.

This great book not only covers numerous physical fitness programs, but provides vital information on how to design your own specialized routines. This book is part of the "For Dummies" series, but do not be turned off by the title. This 350 page text is organized in a specific way to make it easy to understand and apply to your specific needs.

Part one covers the way to "wake up your workouts" by cross training principles. The second part deals with specific things like setting goals, fitness testing and other information. Part three explains the numerous cross-training plans you can follow depending on your needs and interests. Part four goes into some of the various exercises and routines to improve yourself. The fifth part covers in detail various exercises and movements you can use to vary your exercise routine. Part six gives numerous tips to stay on track with your physical fitness needs. The final part has the glossary and fitness charts you can use to keep track of your goals and objectives. This brief review cannot do justice to the amount of information this text contains.

If you are into physical fitness this is one book that should be in your personal library as an excellent reference source.

Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale ( Author: The Samurai Soul: An old warrior's poetic tribute)
