I liked reading this latest in the Friday Harbor series. Lisa Kleypas is the one who made me visit the island to see it for myself. While it is true that this series is not as strong as her Travis family stories, these are all wonderful love stories. Justin and Jason are from two different worlds, his electronic gaming, and hers a quiet life as an inn keeper on San Juan Island. Jason comes to the island because of Justin's heritage in witchcraft. She has something that he wants, and Alex Nolan, from "Dream Lake", also has something that Jason wants. In his league of the rich and famous no one says "no" to Jason. Justin, we have learned in earlier works, has a powerful sense of humor, but is a strongly determined young woman. She yearns for love. Jason usually becomes bored with a woman after a certain time, but is surprised at his attraction for beautiful Justin. Kleypas is true to her nature of writing powerful love scenes. there are enough to please any of her avid readers. I love to read Lisa Kleypas books, I always learn new words, and her topic research is spotless. I learned so much about the gaming industry as well as a lot about some witchcraft lore. Whether that appeals to the reader or not, does not detract, I feel, from the amazing love story. I'm not crazy about the bondage scene, mainly because it was unnecessary and I was distracted thinking Kleypas may have been pressured to include it just to stay current with other hot story of the time like Fifty Shades. In this setting, the only part that made it work, was Jason's history in Japan, and that true bondage is, or can be artistic, and not punishing. I must admit, it was pretty sexy as well. I read this book three times through when I got it, and found more to enjoy each time.Read more ›

This book was a nice conclusion to the trilogy (well really 4 books if you count Christmas Eve at Friday Harbour). Nice to see the development of Justine's character although I do wish we could have seen the return of more of the characters from the other novels. I enjoyed it!

Lisa Kleybas does best when she creates intriguing characters to anchor her romances and with this addition to her Friday Harbour series she has two very sympathetic, compelling main characters. Jason is every woman's fantasy Alpha, obscenely rich, gorgeous, brillant, arrogant, and with a secret sorrow. Justine has her own problems, is grounded, warm, quietly lovely, and, incidentally, is a reluctant witch.
Sure, it's the standard recipe for a romance but romances work best when they stick with the plan and then make the story irresistable. Lisa Kleybas has the chops to do just that and she does it in this book. I really enjoyed every minute spent reading Crystal Cove and am keeping it for a future reread.
Incidentally, I have done a fair amount of boating in these off shore waters and the descriptions of the boating dangers, the seas themselves, kayaking, and the sudden weather changes she writes about are very real.

I love Lisa Kleypas, her books always take me away to a better place. I thought Jason was a strong and yet at the same time lost 'soul' and I loved how he was willing to die to save Justine. I really enjoyed the paranormal twist to this book, a little different from the usual, nice change. Highly recommend
