We bought one of these and thought it was great, a brilliant idea. After one use and it going through the dishwasher (which it is supposed to do), we went to use it and one of the clips that holds the heating plate into the base had broken. We attempted to repair it, but it was impossible to get the metal L to slip back into the grooves without snapping the plastic clip that we had superglued back together. We ended up buying a replacement because shipping would be nuts and the store would not give us one, and after a couple months the same clip has broken on this new one too. I have always had a great love of Cuisinart and am really disgusted that they used such a cheap part that is not strong enough for the tiny amount of abuse it experiences. It's a brilliant machine, except for that one part that has ruined it. Considering the price we paid in comparison to other popcorn makers, I am not happy. I expect better.

This oil popper makes great tasting popcorn (although less healthy than oil less systems) and is easy to use. There are very few unpopped kernels and very little burning. It is a little awkward flipping the popper over when it is done and you have be very careful not burn yourself.

The quality of the unit is very poor and as a result I so not recommend this product at all. After a few uses the clips that hold the hot plate to the base broke, making the popper useless. Many reviews of this product report the same problem. Stay away from this over priced product and buy a different brand.

Cuisinart harms their reputation with this product. Read the reviews, a number of them talk about the latch holding the base together breaking. Well, after two months it broke on me too.

Cuisinart, do your engineering, fix your products!!

This is a reluctant negative review. When it worked, we were very happy with it. Our first one lasted over a year. We love the popcorn from this popper! Before this, we had either microwave popcorn (artificial, stinky, but a guilty pleasure) or hot air popped (light but flavorless so we added rivers of butter and salt). Then we tried this and LOVED it. It reminded me of when I was a kid. That light hint of oil is so good that we stopped adding butter (convincing ourselves we could then have more!)
Then the handle broke. The handle is also the clip that holds the element to the electrical contact. No heat, no popcorn... unless you stand there and hold it down. The store return date was past and the cuisinart warranty requires you to eat the shipping costs there and back. We decided to save the cash, wait for a sale, and replace the popper. We were so in love with the popcorn, we wrote it off as an unfortunate occurrence, but we should have checked the reviews.
Three months and two weeks later... the new popper broke in the same place. Frustrated, I hit the internet and found many others complaining of the same problem. I wish I would have checked earlier. Tomorrow I will see if the store will replace it. If not, I will be looking for another brand.
If you have one that lasts, then you have a great popper and great popcorn. I won't invest another dollar with this brand. The frequency of common complaints suggests to me that there is a serious design flaw with this popper. It is really too bad.
**FOLLOW UP** The retailer replaced the item. After two uses we suffered the same failure- a clip broke. I guess we will keep returning it; we will be on our fourth popper tomorrow. Seriously- avoid the initial purchase if you can. If you insist on buying this popper, keep your receipt!

Cuisinart EasyPop Popcorn Maker (Red)
Loved this appliance until the clips that hold the top down broke off after a few months of use. It now works only if I hold the top down so that there is a power connection - a real nuisance. For a fairly pricey popcorn maker this is an issue that Cuisinart should address.

Verified Purchase
I bought my wife this popcorn maker in February 2011 (for valentine's day). It was the most used appliance in our house (topping our BBQ and expresso maker), used probably close to 300 times (yes, we DO love popcorn and make a batch almost every single day, and many times 2 or even 3 batches a day). After 1 year of extensive usage, it finally gave up (the metal base detached from the plastic handles and doesn't stay in place - now there's a gap where kernels jump off the chamber whenever we use it). We were disappointed, since it cost about $50, but hey - it paid off for itself several times, not to tell about the health benefits of this over Microwave popcorn. It pops virtually 100% of the kernels and does not burn anything, provided you use the right amount of oil (about a teaspoon per full batch). And the popcorn tastes great! It is definitely a 5 star, but keep in mind durability may be a concern. As mentioned above, ours lasted for about 300 batches (this is my best estimate). We never put it in the dishwasher and always took good care of it.

We are not very happy with the construction of this item. The clip on side of popcorn maker broke off just days after warrantee period ended. I contacted Cuisinart and they would do nothing about it.I would not recommend it to anyone. With the number of reviews from people having same problem I would think Cuisinart should possibly look at compensating people who have bought them and they have broken.
