I got this Cuisinart based on the reviews and the fact that my mother still has the same one that's been there for all of my childhood with some minor esthetic things broken and the switch no longer working (just plug it in to turn it on...). This new food processor has some serious design flaws. Some reviews had mentioned them but I thought they were nitpicking given all the other positive reviews.

The worst flaw: it can turn on even if the lid is not on properly, meaning flour or liquid jumping out the back. You need to press two side buttons to unlock the lid which seem flimsy. I'll be very surprised if this lasts five years.

Also, the plunger is clear and hollow with a flimsy "rod" to activate the mechanism. Again, I doubt this will last.

The smaller "bowl" meant for smaller jobs is a bit useless as it still gets the big bowl a bit dirty, meaning you have two things to wash instead of one.

In terms of strengths, it is strong and fairly quiet. I just wish they'd put as much thought in the plastic components as they did on the blade and mechanism. I'd exchange this for a "new" 30 year old model in a heartbeat.

honestly look no further, It does everything you want it to do

cons:

- while grating, small bits of the veggie gets trapped between the grater attachment and the top.

- blade stains so clean after use

- unit jumps to the left every time the unit is started

As you can see, not many substantial cons.

Recently I went to a raw and vegan cooking class for fun and the chef recommended at least a 10 cup food processor with a powerful motor. This food processor had that and more. I have only had this machine for a month and I use it almost every day. I encourage you to watch the accompanying DVD because of the great tips and awesome recipes. In our household we go through a lot of produce and this has made food preparation so much faster and enjoyable. Making sweet potato fries is done in seconds. With carrots you can slice, shred or make sticks instantly. Pureeing soup and making smooth hummus is so easy. We make date balls, cole slaw, and slicing peppers works great as well. The blades are so sharp and spin so fast it doesn't mush them at all. I have even thinly sliced raw meat for stir fry even though I was reluctant to try it but it worked like a charm for stir fry. A great investment for any kitchen.

Just bought this off Amazon.ca - although we've only had it for a couple weeks, we have used it a lot mainly for chopping and pureeing soup. Surprised how quiet it is, and happy that it can hold so much stuff. The only thing I wish was that it came with some sort of case to hold all of the accessories, the blades are really sharp so not ideal to stuff in a drawer or something. The other thing is that it is really heavy, so we have just kept it on the countertop instead of always putting it away and pulling it back out.

Our Cuisineart food processor stopped working 8 months after purchase, some kind of electrical short. Of course it was under warranty, but for the item to be fixed we had to pay for it to be shipped there and back (pathetic). We stumped up the $25+ dollars to ship the food processor all the way to Ontario (we're in BC!) Apparently they fixed it, although we don't know exactly what they did because there was no details included in our returned package.

The point it got really bad was when we opened the package to find the bowl had cracked in transit (you know? That transit that we had paid for). We got in touch with Cuisineart requesting the bowl be replaced, and either 1. a refund of our shipping cost, or 2. a replacement food processor (we don't know if the transport did damage to the unit itself). They simply refused, saying it wasn't their policy. Today they cashed our cheque! Unbelievable.

It's been pathetic customer service from the beginning to the end. Our family own a number of cuisineart appliances - we won't be purchasing any more. We intend to make their shameful customer service known online and amongst our friends and family.

Bought this processor a couple months ago. I use it every day to make dog food. So I finely blend raw veggies and then add ground meat. It works great so far. I love that it can hold 3 litres of liquid before it overflows under the blade, that's been a problem with other machines I've had. My biggest complaint is that moisture and food can get into the handle and not only is it visible, there's no way to get it out. I'll have to soak it in bleach solution to keep mould from forming in it. This has also been a problem with other machines, but i was able to get the handle apart to wash it. Also, the lid is not the easiest to wash. There's a lot to it.

I have bought this machine in a local store, as I wanted to be able to easier return it in case I didn't like it. The price is quite high, and although I was impressed by its performance, I still consider it is too expensive. I want to explain a bit...this unit is amazing, but it is not a processor from my point of view. It has no whisk, and no citrus/fruit juicer. The European Cuisinart processors come with even more discs, and a rotating double whisk. Why doesn't they have the same processors in N America is a mystery. A food processor should be able to carry most of these tasks. It is able to poorly whip the cream, but I'd rather do it in with a mixer. The blade won't whip egg whites for meringue, though. But these are the only negative things about this little beast.
It is so powerful it cuts/shreds in seconds. The pulse button is good as it lets you chop as small as you desire. I used the small bowl and chopped garlic, onion, parsley leafs.
I've used the big bowl to make bread dough. It was wonderful. It worked almost better than my stand mixer. Of course, it can't make too much dough at a time, but it is unbelievable quick, so dividing the dough would be no problem. I also did some coconut butter from flakes, wonderful homemade hummus and chopped veggie for soup.
This machine is a workhorse. Its footprint is quite small, and it fits under cabinets. I am not a fan of its safety features, but I understand I need to leave room for the large pusher to activate the engine. You only have this problem when you need to use the large pusher. Most of the cutting/shredding works with the small pusher, so no big problem.
I love this new gadget in my kitchen, and though it it is not perfect, it is too good to drop any star.
