Product Description

Product Description

Fuelled by the curiosity of a culinary anthropologist and world traveller, this book returns for even more for the venturesome gastronome. This edition boasts 70 additional recipes making a total of 300 and has a newly accessible format, since it is divided geographically rather than according to types of food. Still unique in the breadth of its reach, this cookbook encompasses the entire Portuguese-speaking world. It explains the Moorish and Jewish influence on culinary traditions. Portuguese mariners spread sweet potatoes, peanuts, corn and rice around the world and these staples make regular appearances in the recipes.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent pick for any library strong in international cuisines and history., Jun 19 2008
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Cuisines Of Portuguese Encounters; Expanded (Hardcover)
The entire Portuguese-speaking world is embraced under one cover in an unusual cookbook which covers Portugal and its colonies alike. From Brazil and Cape Verde to Goa and Portugal, chapters survey different regions in addition to offering recipes unique to that region. The blend of culinary history and recipe is outstanding, making for an excellent pick for any library strong in international cuisines and history.

5.0 out of 5 stars A mouth-watering trip around the world, Feb 13 2011
By Gloria Simpson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Cuisines Of Portuguese Encounters; Expanded (Hardcover)
'In the sixteenth century, Portuguese navigators circled the globe...', you learn in the introduction. This book is a record of the resulting exchange of food crops and culinary cultures. Recipes are clearly presented and grouped by country and type (main dishes, desserts, and so on). There is a wide range for all tastes. All the recipes I have tried worked out well and were mouth-watering.
