5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully written and instantly captivating, July 7 2006
By BMAR - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Cupid (Mass Market Paperback)
"Cupid" by Barbara Keaton is a fast-paced, engrossing novel. From the very first page, I was quickly taken in by Morgan and Jarrod's story. Morgan is an accomplished publication relations specialist who is enjoying success in her business and her life, though divorced Morgan would love to have someone to share her life with. After making the mistake of telling her cousin Yavette that she's been looking into alternative ways to meet men, including internet dating, Morgan becomes the target of Yavette's matchmaking skills. Morgan goes on a series of unsuccessful blind dates and soon realizes that the only man consistently catching her interest in the bartender at her favorite local pub "Nick's Sports Bar and Grill." Bartender Jarrod is also captivated by Morgan, but has become a sounding board who listens to her stories about failed dates and her failure to find the right man rather than a potential love interest - or so he thinks.

This captivating, often humorous, book follows the adventures of Morgan and makes us wonder at each step if Morgan and Jarrod will ever discover that what each of them is looking for is right in front of them. Author Barbara Keaton's writing is sophisticated and each of her characters is well-developed. This was my first reading of a Barbara Keaton novel, but most definitely will not be my last.

The book was okay, but didn't move fast enough for me. I wouldn't read it again. I kept reading thinking it would get better and it never did.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Mr. Right, Feb 9 2007

This review is from: Cupid (Mass Market Paperback)
Morgan Paige is a marketing executive at the top of her game. She has a successful career and is a business owner. Her client list includes top NFL players and other elite clients. Although she is blazing trails in her professional life, Morgan is unlucky at love. Still a little tainted by her divorce, she is quick to protect her heart from being hurt again. However, Yavette is on a personal mission to help her cousin find Mr. Right. Growing up like sisters, Yavette and Morgan are like two peas in a pod. Yavette is newly engaged to Jackson and she wants Morgan to have the same type of happiness. Much to Morgan's chagrin, Yavette concocts a plan for her to participate in a series of blind dates. Reluctantly going along with the dating scheme, Morgan continues to meet examples of men she does not want, but not to make waves with her cousin; she continues to go along with the plan.

However, Morgan's curiosity has been raised to an all-time high by oh-so-fine Jarrod, the handsome bartender at her favorite hot spot. Jarrod's handsome face, friendly demeanor and athletic physique haunt Morgan's thoughts and threaten to impede the dating scheme arranged by Yavette. Yet, being the strong, silent type, Jarrod has plans of his own. He has had his eye on Morgan for quite some time, however, he is uncertain if she would respond favorably to his advances.

Kudos to Ms. Keaton for creating interesting main and secondary characters that capture the reader's attention. The story flowed nicely and was more than the typical boy-meets girl story line. I look forward to reading more works by Ms. Keaton.
