"The ultimate lesbian love novel."— The Lesbian News

"A masterpiece of lesbian love."— The Sacramento Star

The intimacy of a cabin at Lake Tahoe provides the combustible setting that brings Diana Holland and Lane Christianson together in this passionate novel of first discovery. Candid in its eroticism, intensely romantic, and remarkably beautiful, Curious Wine is a love story that will remain in your memory.

Katherine Forrest is the author of 12 books, including the groundbreaking science-fiction novel Daughters of a Coral Dawn and the enduringly popular Kate Delafield Mysteries. She lives in San Francisco.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's the plot? Aug 19 2003
Format:Paperback
The plot started out well. The slow building of the attraction between Lane and Diana. The questions and confusion. Then all of a sudden, they have sex and the book turns into a collection of erotica. Lane and Diana just run from one sex scene to another with very little interaction with each other or the other characters. I enjoyed the scenes where they are talking, getting to know each other. However, those were few and far between.

The other characters were interchangeable and very cardboard. (I kept mixing up Millie and Madge.) Diana's relationship with Jack is not explained until the end of the book. The confusion Diana "suffers" is rather mild compared to a real coming-out.

Overall, the book was a decent read. However, it does not live up to it's billing as the greatest lesbian romance ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars a beautiful lesbian love story! Jun 17 2004
Format:Paperback
This is a great, great lesbian love story. When I think "lesbian love story," the two books that come to mind immediately are this one, and (the in some ways quite similar) Claire of the Moon. They share a certain beauty, they're sweet and sensitive, and they're about real, deep-down, soul-shaking connection between two women.

Curious Wine's two main characters -- Diane and Lane -- draw you in, and the others are not only great foils, but have their own tensions and issues to work through and deal with. I guess you could say there's a good deal of "CR" going on throughout the story. :)

The heart of the plot is the growing relationship between the two main characters, and the personal growth that one of them -- who had considered herself heterosexual -- has to go through to figure out what she wants for herself. Sub-plots revolve around the supporting characters' lives, and their roles in Diane's and Lane's lives.

The story's so engaging, the writing so flowing and smooth, the characters so hard to leave behind that I end up re-reading this book on a pretty regular basis. Read it, love it, read it again -- and again, and again ....
