This review is from: The Curse (Mass Market Paperback)
Incantation of Death
Something was terribly wrong in the sleepy southern town of Dunning. Newsman Branch Edwards felt an aura of evil touching every man, woman and child. Night after night he witnessed people dying violently and horribly. But only when he started digging into the past did he suspect the unspeakable truth. Only when he heard the story told by an elderly Indian woman did he believe in the curse.
Now the curse was reaching out from the old cemetey, embracing the town's half witted boy and the Indian's teenage grandson, Cal. Now, as night fell, shadows lengthened and the owl called, the terror was returning....coming from the very depths of hell to infect them all.
From inside cover:
THe Old Insane Asylum
The policeman now realized he had made a mistake. The teenagers had not entered the cemetery, but were instead partying at the old insane asylum. He continued to crawl through the high grass and weeds toward the hulking, dark outline of the building.
The world around him went white for a moment, and then the darkness returned. Now he was frightened , for he could see nothing. His fear grew when he heard a scream above the wind's roar. "Holy Damn! That didn't sound like somebody having fun. Now I've got to get them!"
He leaped to his feet, but the wind and foot-tangling grass prevented him from moving as fast as he wanted. A bolt of lightning split the sky and Merl saw a figure streak past him to his right.
"Halt!", he yelled. He continued to run blindly. A fence's barbed wire struck his legs,a nd he spun over it, head down and bellowing. Merl continued to spin, the wires, like live things, cutting, tearing, and chewing into his flesh as the wind howled like a thousand maddened dogs.
