5.0 out of 5 stars Off the Wall Charlotte MacLeod, Mar 23 2006
By Princess Leah - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Curse of the Giant Hogweed (Paperback)
As absurd as Charlotte MacLeod occasionally gets, this is by far the silliest book that she's ever written. Time travel, cursed swords, the invention of soap, and ancient goddesses figure into the plot of what could be called MacLeod's only foray into a fantastic relm.

Professor Shandy and the gang are in England for a conference on what to do about the Giant Hogweed that is overtaking agriculture everywhere. Little do they know that only they can find the key to the survival of agriculture everywhere sometime in the distant past.

While this novel has nothing to do with the college, it still uses the characters and similar elements that any fan of MacLeod's work expect. Highly amusing and very much reccomended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Charlotte MacLeod ventures into fantasy, Jun 30 2009

This review is from: Curse of the Giant Hogweed (Paperback)
I've been a great fan of Charlotte's books since introduced to them just a few years ago. The Curse of the Giant Hogweed is the fifth in the Peter Shandy series. This book ventures into new territory from her previous mysteries. Suddenly in the second chapter, Charlotte immerses us into an fairytale fantasy featuring Peter, Dan Stott, Timothy Ames, and a giant who has some resemblance to President Thorkjeld Swenson. It took me awhile to engage since I was stumbling over all the old English words in the dialogue. The only reason this didn't get four stars is that it would have been helpful to have a dictionary in the back to help translate the meaning of words like "gin","wyvern", "cozen", "geste", etc. Since the narration was clear, the general meaning could be grasped. As usual, through the suspense, Charlotte's trademark humor made this a fun book to read.
