As much as I wanted to like this film I think we should have admitted to ourselves that Peter Sellers and Inspector Jacques Clouseau were both no more. TRAIL OF THE PINK PANTHER was ingeniously edited from Sellers' outtakes and new footage and would have been a befitting end and homage to the actor and the character. I have to admit that I take this film out once in a while and watch it. There is certain sentimentality by seeing some of the actors from the original PINK PANTHER and A SHOT IN THE DARK reprise their roles here. Herbert Lom as Chief Inspector Charles Dreyfus and Burt Kwouk as Kato are ever present and a comfort to see. However it was a real treat to see David Niven as Sir Charles Lytton, Robert Wagner as George Lytton his nephew and Capucine as Simone the ex-Misses Clouseau. As for the plot of this film it is rather buoyant and sketchy. Ted Wass as Clifton Sleigh a bumbling police officer from America does the best with what material he is given but he really lacks the charm and any clear definition of his character if in fact director Blake Edwards had any intentions of reviving the series with him. There are a few genuinely funny moments but they are too few. There is a surprise ending that you can interpret two different ways but there is no point revealing it here. Besides the cast I also did like the score composed by Henry Mancini. Mancini was a true professional. He never compromised the quality of his music no matter what the merits of the film appeared to be. He actually composed a very good theme for the Clifton Sleigh character. Unfortunately there was no soundtrack to this film issued and so Clifton Sleighs theme remains jut a fond memory.

I think this film is not bad, but its also not verry good... the previous Pink Panther (iven Trail), had Peter Sellers in it, and HE was one of the reasons that the films were succesfull. Now in this one, because the producers cooldn't find any other usefull material of Sellers (like in Trail), they deside to show a Clouseau-like, Clifton Sleigh (awfully played by Ted Wass), a New York Policeman, whoose been chosen to found ChiefInspector Clouseau. The wrong point to this film, is that the central character of this film, is a anone and uninteresting character. This alone is VERRY BAD POINT of the film There are good things here of course, like the re-teaming of NIVEN-WAGNER-CAPUCINE to their roles from the original PINK PANTHER film. Herbert Lom's outstanding Dreyfus is here. And theres a cute and amusing cameo that you love to see it all over it again Overall, a good movie

This is definately the most underrated film of all time! The subtle, esoteric wit and slap-dab humor combine to form a comic masterpiece. Ted Wass' profound subtlety and dead-pan humor make this by far the best Pink Panther film (I have seen -- I have seen all of the Pink Panther films except "The Son of the Pink Panther"): recreating what had become a somewhat overused and outdated formula. This is definitely one of the funniest if not the funniest films of all time. Inflate-a-mate(s), inflate-a-pet(s), real life mates, real life pets, Eastern Wisdom, "James Bond", Meditteranean travel and good old-fashioned slap-stick combine to make this film a non-stop sortium of laughther. It also includes a suprise cameo by ??? I could not recommend this film highly enough.

Possibly the most distasteful mainstream Hollywood film ever, this features a clearly-ill David Niven in his final role, in a film that continues a series whose star died a film ago. Imagine the corpses of both Niven and Sellers being squeezed in a giant mangle, and you have the level of revulsion this film engenders. 'Trail' was interesting as a collection of out-takes, although the thought that people paid money to see it in the cinema is mind-boggling; this, on the other hand, is actually offensive. Worse than that, it's neither funny nor interesting, and Blake Edwards' subsequent attempts to resurrect the franchise smell of desperation.

Clouseau is missing.Whoever will find him?Cliffton Sleigh of the New York City police department will. This movie is great. It is laugh out loud funny. When Clouseau's plane goes missing the French police department send the most inept police officer to go find him.The great thing about this movie is to see all the old Pink Panther stars like David Niven as the notorius Phantom and Cappucine as his wife. The movie also includes Pink Panther almuni such as Herbert Lom as Commisioner Dreyfous and Burt Kwouk as Cato. The ending has an unbelievable twist and would be a perfect installment to your video library.

Could the beloved comedy series "The Pink Panther" about a bumbling detective carry on without Peter Sellers? Sure, if you had actors and a script. This dreadful waste of time has a grand total of ONE, count them ONE, funny bit in it that lasts about 10 seconds. The rest is excrutiating. It should be banned, burned, buried and then bury the shovel. I deeply regret the great David Niven had to end his career by appearing in this benchmark for bad movies.

Those of you who are saying you don't like this movie because Sellers isn't in it have good reason. Sellers is the only true Cluseau. Still, get over it! He's gone! He's not coming back! And if you ask me, Edwards did an extremely good job making a Cluseau comedy with no Sellers. Sure, this new New York detective could never measure up to Sellers, but he did a great job trying. Get this movie. It's actually pretty good.
