**********USERS BEWARE********** March 17 2012

First, my background, so you will know I am qualified on this topic. I have a degree in Automotive Technology, am certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) as both a Master Automotive Technician and Automotive Service Consultant, and have over 40 years of experience in the automotive (including RV) service industry.

In my experience, Curt Manufacturing makes very high quality products that perform very well and, yes, that is a recommendation. However, no matter how great the product, it can perform no better than the equipment to which it is mounted. Therefore, before you consider purchase of this product I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you thoroughly research the weight capacity of the 4-inch box bumper on the trailer or motor home to which you are attaching this hitch. Although there are definitely many exceptions, SOME of these "box bumpers" are only made out of sheet metal and are not really DESIGNED to carry much more weight than that of the sewage hose that usually/often goes inside that bumper. The entire potential assembly, meaning the bumper, hitch receiver, whatever you attach to the hitch receiver, and whatever you put on whatever you attach to the hitch receiver, can be very heavy and have a long "leverage arm/moment" which effectively drastically increases the load that bumper and its mounts must be able to safely support.

Although it is related to "Cargo Carriers" mounted to hitch receivers, there is an excellent video that pretty clearly explains torsional loads and effective weight loads on hitches that you can watch via this link here at:

Also, here is the installation instruction sheet for this product from Curt Manufacturing's website:

You will see that it clearly states at the top "***DO NOT EXCEED VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED TOWING CAPACITY***", right after stating the capacities of their hitch product itself.

Many people mount a simple spare tire carrier and spare wheel/tire assembly to this type of bumper, and many of them cannot even successfully carry that type of item/weight. I have seen many of these bumpers that have either completely broken off and are "missing" from their mounts (probably at the side of the road somewhere) or are severely cracked and ready to fail. If you check out other reviews here on Amazon, you will see that several users of this Curt product DID, IN FACT, COMPLETELY LOSE whatever they were carrying via this hitch precisely because the bumper and/or its mounts were unable to support the load they attached to this hitch. While I feel sorry for their losses, I am far more concerned about the possibly deadly traffic accidents they may have caused when whatever they were carrying was suddenly dumped into traffic lane(s), without their knowledge at the time, in front of other vehicles. This could even include another trailer and its contents if it was used to tow that trailer.

THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS, POTENTIALLY DEADLY, PROBLEM FOLKS!!! PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY AND USE THIS PRODUCT ON YOUR VEHICLE. Again, this Curt Manufacturing product is, I'm sure, an excellent product. However, because it is almost always the weakest link in any chain that will fail, this Curt Hitch can perform no better than the bumper, and/or its mounts, to which it is attached!!!

Well the hitch is very nice, only one problem,I place the hitch on the back of my 2005 travel trailer, with out checking the bumper out. Place a three bike rack with three bikes on the hitch well make a long story short the bumper was not mad for the weight lost three bikes. This is not the fault of the hitch.I should have check the bumper more closley. This is more of a heads up than a product review

E-100 Bumper Mount Hitch April 18 2009

Worked great! Just tested it on a week long camping trip. I'm using for extra storage with a extended rack off the back of my campers bumper. This is a heavy duty hitch mount. Very easy to install and can mount up or down. It took less than ten minutes to mount where I wanted it. I installed down so items are under my tail lights. This is a very well constructed product with very tight welds and nice paint job. Heavy duty installation bolts only need one wrench to install as they are counter sunk so they don't stick out for close in installs.

A Word of Caution May 13 2011

This hitch installs quickly and easily and is very sturdy. In fact, it proved to be sturdier than my bumper. The weight of the hitch, bike rack, and two bikes broke the weld that held the bumper on. Be sure to check with your trailer manuafacturer before installing anything on the bumper. Mine appeared to be strong enough but the leverage of the bike rack was too much for it.
