The DHP-501AV seems to be a considerably better product than the previous generation. Setup was dead easy (just plug them into two adjacent outlets and synchronize them in secure by holding down the button for a couple seconds on each unit) and they deal with the wiring in my house far better. I'm consistently clocking 10mbps internet downloads from my entertainment consoles, and seeing none of the periods when the light flashed red when the AC unit came on.
My only complaint is that if you place them in the bottom outlet, they block the top outlet from being used. If you place them upside down in the top outlet, you still have the second outlet free, but it looks dorky and doesn't feel all that stable.
options (and found these on sale exactly when I needed) I decided to give it a try.
Just got them out of the box, followed the very simple instructions and BAM, it worked. First I tried
them on the same room, but then I moved one of them to its final location (One is on the basement and
the other is two floors above) and the thing just worked.
In my case I'm getting speeds around 130Mb/s. Apparently you can better (or worse) results if you try
plugin them in different outlets but since the speeds are good enough I didn't play around.
It turns out that the arc fault interrupter circuit breakers (AFI breakers) now required in bedrooms can filter out the powerline ethernet signal, and one of the brands of that filters out powerline ethernet is the brand I have, Siemens. Since you can't mix and match breaker brands, I had to return the powerline adapters and ran some ethernet instead.
Really wanted this to work; it's too bad they didn't in my case!
The functionality of data transmission via hydro lines is used quite extensively in Europe were wireless is not at all reliable in older houses with thick stone walls. The only limitation is that the data stream will not travel through transformers - the kinds hanging on hydro poles or the block in the backyard.
When your off line for a half hour or longer you always have to reset it or unplug and replug.
Reset doesn't work most of the time.
Mostly unplugging and plugging it back in.
It's only maybe 30ft away from my main router.
Not impressed, glad it was under 100.00

Excellent product. Keeps a good connection. Maybe not the best for high speed streaming. Maybe it's just my home's connection.Published 24 months ago by Ricardo Galluccio
