2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and Misrepresented Sep 26 2009
By DBG Reader - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This was my first - and last - purchase of the "Classics Library" sight unseen.

The problems:

1) The "New Gods" themed JLA / JSA team-up is missing part 1, because George Perez did not draw it - as those interested in this book may or may not know, Perez took over JLA after the untimely death of Dick Dillin. I realize Perez did not draw part 1, but it should have been included regardless - particularly at this price point.

2) The product image represents the next year's JLA / JSA team up against the Secret Society of Supervillains - only it is NOT included in Volume I. The existence of Volume II was conveniently disclosed after Volume I was out.

The 2 stars represent the fact that I still enjoy the art, and the Red Tornado arc is OK - the Shaggy Man story continues to be filler, as are the JLA postcards.

But as others have pointed out, it is not worth the price being charged - especially given the false advertisement.

Bait-and-switch, anyone?

1.0 out of 5 stars Not even remotely justifiable Sep 28 2009
By Steve G. - Published on Amazon.com

As stated in the forward, George Perez illustrated less than a dozen issues of the Justice League. Why then do we have a hardbound volume containing only six issues, and commanding a pretty stiff price tag to boot?

I have some lavish memories of these stories as a kid. They were some of my earliest comic purchases. I've been wanting to see them collected for a long time, and this may well be the first time some of these stories have been reprinted. But dividing such a small number of stories into multiple volumes, then slapping them into a wafer-thin hardcover with a $40 MSRP can't be considered even remotely acceptable.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice art but rip-off Sep 24 2009
By Michael W. Rickard II - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Everyone knows what a great comic artist George Perez is. Unfortunately the new DC Library series continues to be a rip-off. This book (as another reviewer mentioned) does not contain ALL of the George Perez JLA issues. Nor does it contain both of the JLA/JSA team-ups that Perez drew. This is only volume 1 of a two volume set. The book is overpriced. I paid $31 on Amazon for the book and it reprints six issues and a few pages showing Perez' JLA postcards from 1984. Definitely not worth the money and DC deserves boos for false advertising. Didio must be losing at the track or something.
