I bought this because it has a flat top to replace my curved top CST/Berger tripod. This is labeled as "Heavy Duty" on the tripod. Believe me; it is not. The CST is hugely more sturdily built and stable in the ground. There's just no comparison in the quality - the CST wins completely. This has thin round supports and the legs are curved to fit and slide along the round supports. The aluminum is so thin that the legs feel very flimsy in comparison to the CST.
There is an open slide that the screw for mounting the level goes into. This allows you to make adjustments in position so your plumb bob hangs exactly over the pin. In the CST tripod, this slide is metal. In this DeWalt tripod, that piece is flimsy plastic.
So, on top of all that, the unit delivered to me by Amazon was someone else's return. The return shipping label was still on the DeWalt box - which was packed inside of an Amazon box for shipping to me. Only the name/address of the person shipping back to Amazon was scraped off of the return label. It even had a tracking number; I guess I could have used that and found out even more. The unit had been returned but not used. The points where the feet go into the ground were still unscratched from dirt. So, since I am using this to build one house (my own) and then don't really need one, I will keep it but I am disappointed and wish I had ordered the CST flat top tripod to replace my CST curved tripod.
