The DEWALT DW735 13-Inch, Three Knife, Two Speed Thickness Planer has a powerful 15 AMP, 20,000 RPM motor (10,000 RPM cutterhead speed) that handles larger cuts in wider materials with ease. The three knife cutter-head delivers 30-Percent longer knife life and makes knife change faster and easier. The two speed gear box allows users to change feed speed to optimizing cuts per Inch at 96 or 179 CPI. It has a fan-assisted chip ejection that vacuums chips off of the cutter-head and exhausts them out of the machine. With a 19-3/4-Inch cast aluminum base it is 2X more rigid than a standard 10-Inch base and folding tables. The automatic carriage lock reduces the movement that causes snipe without the need for manual engagement by the user. It also has a material removal gauge and extra-large thickness scale that deliver accurate cuts with every pass. The extra-large turret depth stop allows users to return to most frequently used thicknesses with ease.

From the Manufacturer

The DW735 13-inch thickness planer from DEWALT provides best in class surface finish through a one of a kind three knife cutter-head--even in hard to plane figured woods. At 96 or 179 cuts per inch, the DW735 offers the finest finish via the most cuts per inch available on a bench top thickness planer. A fan-assisted chip ejection system aids in the removal of debris and prevents excess chips from marring your material. The unique automatic carriage lock minimizes the movement that causes snipe without engaging a lever before and after each pass. A solid 19-3/4-inch cast aluminum base provides twice the rigidity of traditional material support systems that utilize folding tables. The DW735 is a must for the serious woodworker.

So far this product is working really well.

Be warned though, it has a very powerful fan for pushing chips out. If you do not have a professional chip / dust collection system this is a big problem, which I had to face as well. That said, there are solutions, and the one that works well for me is the Worx WA4053 which connects to any garbage can and its intended use is for the collection of leaves, but is essentially the same device as the DW7353 which is now discontinued.

Hope this helps out.

I've put about 500 BdFt of cedar through it. Nice finish and easy to use, especially with extension tables and stand which I bought separately, but some problems with feed rollers not pulling wood through/stopping mid job, etc. and becoming shiny/useless. The instructions do not include anything relating to cleaning of rollers or anything like this problem (which seems to be a regular problem after about 10 cedar boards, especially if there is any dampness.. I called Dewalt and they confirmed I could use mineral spirits of rubbing alcohol without damaging the rubber. This cleaning make the machine work great again. OK when you know.
Happy overall. The machine needs to finish the house before it gets any more stars...

After shopping and researching for what felt like forever, I finally decided on what planer I was going to buy. The DW735 is an excellent tool, and everything I would ever need from a planer. The included tool for removing the blades and dust chute cover sits nicely in a slot on the top of the unit. Blade changes were very easy, the chip blower throws the wood chips at an incredible rate, the stock removal gauge is accurate, the height adjustment wheel is a pleasure to use, the second speed leaves a perfect finish and the unit itself is sturdy and very well designed. Altogether, it is a fantastic addition to my shop... I'm gonna go use it right now!

Bought this planer on an emergency basis after my Grizzly 20" was exposed to water and badly rusted - I had a project using 10/4 hard maple and a client breathing down my neck. The planer worked faultlessly though I quickly learned not to try and push through more than a 6" wide piece at a time - on softer wood like walnut it will easily take a 12" wide plank. The finish is perfect with no tear out, even on maple. I used this planer almost daily for 6 months before I had to flip the blades (I use the worn edge when planing teak or similar woods). I am still on the original blades that came with the machine. On a 10" wide plank the thickness variance is about .002 from side to side. I have since down sized my shop and bought a Hammer A3-41 16" combo machine but I still use my DeWalt when I don't want the hassle of switching from jointer to planer mode. If the De Walt ever conks out I am going to replace it with the same model. As someone else mentioned you definitely need to have a powerful (1,000 CFM or larger) dust collector to pull the chips out so they don't end up on your work.

This is a great unit. Easy to set-up and use. Very straight forward. Makes nice cuts with no snipe. The saw dust ejection chute also works well. If there's one issue I found that that when working with really hard wood (maple, cherry, and even oak) over 6 inches wide I couldn't take more than a CH off at a time otherwise it would stall and/or burn. IT still worked but it was a long process.

Overall, however, great machine.

I'm extreemly disapointed with my purchase... blades dull after only 15 minutes of use. I was able to get about 50bf of fir though the machine taking about 1/16th off at a time but the last few passes were very noisy, very little chips exiting the unit and my breaker fliped several times. When the breaker flips you have to raise the unit up, remove your peice, flip your breaker and then start all over. Very annoying. I hope there are better blades made for this machine out there because the ones dewalt makes are garbage.

Many folks can give you better tech-savvy type reviews here. I can tell you i had 2 planers before this, mastercraft, and mastercraft maximum 13 inch planer. This will do my work much better quality in much shorter time with fewer passes through than any i've used. There is no measuable snipe, but i also use the optional wing extensions. I use infeed, outfeed rolers as well. Blades are pricey, but they all are. I haven't used carbide tipped ones yet, and i've never used a spiral head to compare. I have done lots of cedar and pine, and only a bit of hardwood so far. I don't see "planer shine" so far and really i could assembly stuff without sanding. Chip removal is a non-issue the blower moves them out swiftly. I had been using a shop vac with a cylone product wich worked well, but upgraded recently to a dust collector (king) because of other shop needs. If you will use a planer often, this is a very good investment from my point of view.

very happy with this prduct..have not used it that much as yet but what i have planed so far is very smooth. A bit dissapointed with the amount of snipe as reviews stated there was very little or no snipe As with all planers, support is needed at the exit.. However,a very good tool and I would recommend it for any woodworker. My previous planer was a Makita jointer planer combination and I have to say the Dewalt does a better job, although I miss the jointer. Lost that machine in the High River flood of 2013. It is possible to use the Dewalt as a jointer if the work peice is not too wide by standing the workpeice on edge. The Makita when new retailed for over 2000.00 so the price on the Dewalt is a steal. Also the portability of the Dewalt is a great asset. Have it hooked up to my dust collector which is able to catch almost 100 per cent of the chips,so very little cleanup. All in all, a goodie
