Alongside Agoria's Balance Series 16, Burial's Street Halo and Kindred EPs, John Talabot's Fin, Digweed's Structures 2 and Ben UFO's Rinse FM mix, this superlative mix ranks at the top of progressive electronic music produced in the last year or so. The DJ Kicks series is as reliable generally as Global Underground once was, and as the Balance Series continues to be. It seems that K7 (DJ Kicks) and EQ Recordings (Balance) respectively value their reputation of fostering premier underground and progressive electronic artists.
Word of advice. This CD/MP3 of Photek's comes in two forms. A shortened form on CD, and a longer form with the tracks fleshed out to their full potential, apparently on the MP3 download only. The MP3 offering therefore is very tempting, although the 65 min CD has its own succinct joys. It's not quite a euphoria inducing dance mix from Photek, but middles between mid tempo cerebral listening along with some ecstatic moments, if you get my drift.
