His Special Tribute To Three Classical Legends Sept. 20 2013
By RH - Published on
Verified Purchase
With Eldar Djangirov taking his creative power a step further after switching to
the production label Motema in late 2012 and in the wake of his highly acclaimed
album Breakthrough (his first for Motema), the master jazz pianist had decided to
release a classical CD that pays an honourable tribute to three classical titans of
the glorious past. Also released in 2013, Bach/ Brahms/ Prokofiev is Eldar’s own
lyrical tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach, Johannes Brahms and Sergei Prokofiev,
the celebrated masters from classical music’s rich past whose romantic and richly
textured art still deeply influences many the world over as their rich legacy live on
forever long after eternity. On this album, Eldar gracefully plays one whole piece
by each of the music masters observed--Partita No 2 in C Minor by J.S. Bach (as
showcased on 6 tracks); Eight Piano Pieces, op 76 by Brahms; and Sonata No 7
in B flat major, op 83 by Prokofiev; plus, for the final track you get to hear a piano
solo take on Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight Of The Bumble Bee (the first piano
arrangement was done by Sergei Rachmaninov, who was a real perfectionist on
the piano). Officially billed as his second solo CD after Three Stories from 2011,
Bach/ Brahms/ Prokofiev brilliantly showcase Bach’s playfulness from the 1820’s,
Brahms’ soaring harmony from the 1870’s and Prokofiev’s masterfully captivating
socially-liberated uplifting virtuosity of the 1940’s, whom they all showcased with
timeless beauty, stunning grace and full-fledged artistry. So for admirers of Eldar
Djangirov and lovers of classical music, I have to highly recommend this virtuoso
tribute achievement, which can be described as a first rate tribute album and one
of his best and most beloved CD’s.
