If anybody in the States is familiar with this band, then it's probably because Flight of the Conchords have become popular and, if you know about Flight of the Conchords, then you probably know about "Eagle vs Shark" and that The Reduction Agents appear on the soundtrack.
"80s Celebration" is a great pop song. But this album is so much more than that song. There's the other singles, which you can check outon youtube.com ("The Pool" and "Waiting for Your Love") which are both good songs that start to show how varied The Reduction Agent's sound is. This album sounds like a mix tape; a very good mix tape complete with a country song that doesn't suck or just sound like classic rock with a twang.
I hope The Reduction Agents stick around for a while and get the dues they deserve, because they've created a really, really solid album here. The songs are all unique, smart, and catchy enough to warrent more attention than just being known for appearing on the soundtrack of some film.
I found this band while sampling 'Lil Chief (and Auckland based label)'s roster. The Reduction Agents and The Nudie Suits, both very different, are the best by far. Though, I have yet to really listen to Lawrence Arabia...
