Gameplay

Just as in earlier releases in the franchise, DanceDanceRevolution is a multiplayer Dance / Music / Rhythm hybrid game based on the original Japanese arcade classic of the same name. The game is packed with a blend of licensed popular and classic dance tracks, as well as tracks created especially for the game by game developer and publisher, Konami. The player's goal is to keep time with the precise rhythm of each track as they are queued by on-screen arrows that scroll up the game screen from the bottom. The top of the screen is the "step zone" - four static arrows pointing left, down, up and right. As the scrolling arrows pointing in one of these directions makes contact with like arrows in the step zone players indicate the correct direction and duration, again in time with the song. The more accurate you are in doing this, the more points you score, with even more points available as simultaneous arrow combinations occur. Success also maintains your life bar, while a poor performance decreases it, eventually leading to the end of your turn if the bar is entirely depleted.

Typically rhythm input is done with your feet using the DanceDanceRevolution dance pad - included with this bundle, but DanceDanceRevolution for Wii also includes support for the Wii Balance Board and Wii Remotes/Wii Remote Plus (both sold separately). Use of the Balance Board basically mimics that of the controller mat, only without the stomping. Use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk allows for the game's "Choreography Style Mode," an integration of hand and upper body movement, which can be added to standard four direction gameplay, as well as an expansion of the the game's multiplayer possibilities, now without the mat controller. Additional features include: unloackable tracks and outfits for your onscreen character, motivational challenges, tutorials and a variety of coop play options.

This game is ideal to play with your family & friends or alone. The songs are good even though some are a little slow. It is also really nice to have the choice between playing the traditional way or the choreography way (this feature requires you to use a remote and a nunchuck). If you previously bought the Wii Fit game, you may also use the Wii Balance board for some features which is also interesting. The only critique I would have towards DDR is that once you start a song, you cannot stop it until it is finished, which can be frustrating if you play for the points and you messed up the beginning of the song.

I've always played in the arcades, if I would have saved my money I could have owned the actual machine by now from all the money I put into it. It's a great work out, I lost over 100 pounds on it about 6 years ago from playing it about 4 times a week I would say, for about 2 hours to 3 hours a day. It's also a great price, I was looking at others and they go for 40$ plus.

I would recommend this. :)

This product does not work on Wiis that can't support GameCube controllers. Waste of money if you don't have a Wii that does this. They do not state this and they should!!!

Well, I don't dance too well on this game. It is still fun and a little challenging to use the floor mat.
Good selection of modern music including some slower songs for practice.
Hopefully, practice will improve my skill level.
A good workout with a reasonable challenge level.

The dance pads make for a new way of interacting with my Wii system. I also really like the song selection, the workout mode and the fact that it seems easy enough to play. Better instructions would have helped though.
