Product Description

Product Description

It all started as an easier way to answer all the e-mails expressing concern and asking questions about her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. When Loui Tucker tired of typing the same responses or copying the same paragraphs, she started writing and sending one e-mail update per week, every Sunday night for almost ten months. Those weekly essays became a real-time journey shared by hundreds of readers. While writing about the physical problems associated with cancer treatment, she educated them about drug therapies and their side effects, mammograms, and alternative medicine. More importantly, she opened a window into her heart and soul, and let others learn the lessons, find the humor, and savor the victories along the way. This isn't a book about surviving cancer. It's about thriving. It's a book written with candor, forthrightness, and conviction. It's a book about cancer that's inspirational, compelling, joyful, and intensely honest.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unusual View, May 24 2005
By Dorothy H. Whitman "Reincarnated English Major" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dancing with Cancer (Paperback)
When reading "Dancing with Cancer" I was struck by the matter of factness in Loui's approach. It was very evident from the beginning that she was determined to beat the cancer and had an unususal approach in that it was pratical and positive at the same time. I found the format, emails presented in chronological order, to be refreshing and gave a sense of immediacy to the whole story. By involving her community in her journey Loui mananged to make the story vivid without placing undue drama or extreme torment on the pages. This, in it's symplicity, created a more moving and deep impression. I was inspired to face my day to day challences with an open heart and single mindedness that Loui expresses through out her book. As an aside I found her physical descriptions to be reassuring as they removed some of the scary unknow elements from the experience. I recomend this book for both those going through the experience and those who want to remember how good the life we have is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dancing With Cancer, April 10 2005
By Barbara Ashley - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dancing with Cancer (Paperback)
When my best friend since high school was fighting her breast cancer, I was hesitant about asking too many questions. I would go with her to her chemo treatments, and try to talk about other things. I didn't always know what to say, and at times it was very uncomfortable. Loui's book answered all my questions, plus many I never thought to ask. Her book is written in an upbeat style, with sensitivity and humor. It is clearly written, and incredibly honest -- a must read for anyone with breast cancer......and anyone with a friend or family member who has breast cancer. It makes a great gift. I gave one to my friend; and she shared it with her cancer support group.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strength, Mar 22 2005
By Kathryn Morgan - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Dancing with Cancer (Paperback)
After I bought Dancing with Cancer, it took me several weeks to gather the strength to read it. But once I started, I realized that reading this book doesn't REQUIRE strength; it GIVES it: strength to face reality with knowledge, courage, honesty, and humor; strength to reach out to people rather than hide all alone; strength to know that suffering women can be surrounded by support and love; strength to triumph and earn more time to dance on this earth.
