“What a true pleasure it was to read your book. It was difficult to tear away from the immediately engaging stories of Carrie and Anne. It spoke of so many things deep and wise within and the connection we all share that is so often masked by modern conveniences and superficialities. Thank you for sharing your brilliance with the world. I eagerly await your next trip inward to uncover what else yearns to be shared.”(Michelle Scott Coleman, CPCC, ACC, Professional Life Coach, Leadership and Play Consultant Testimonial)
“Denene expertly weaves the stories of two women in a gentle, flowing and magical journey of mystery and discovery. The two women grow in depth of character revealing intimate secrets along the way. The reader is taken on a gentle voyage of healing, not only of the women but also of the earth itself. If you are looking for a story about humanity, mysteries of life, self-love, romance and magic, this is the book for you.”(Shannon McFadden, Registered Nurse and Author Testimonial)
“Initially neither of these characters are looking beyond themselves, but as they move forward, Denene skillfully introduces bits of shamanic knowledge, practice, and lore to help them through life’s challenges. There is much one can learn from Denene’s book...that can help us understand life’s mysteries, and even more importantly, much that can assist us in navigating this marvelous journey called life.”(Shanon Alexondra Harwood, Shamanic Practitioner and Master Astrologer Testimonial)
Derksen is a practicing shaman, with a background in drama instruction, massage therapy, angel intuition, and body talk. Writing the book "Dancing with Fire" was a magical tying together of what she has learned since “falling out of the ordinary” herself in 2001, when her curiosity about the true cause of disease, and her search for fulfillment and meaning in life, led her to study shamanism. She studied with Marv and Shanon Harwood, of the Kimmapii School of Shamanism, where she continues to study and assist in teaching. Derksen’s own shamanic practice, The Fool’s Journey, is located in Calgary. She has three children, and her family enthusiastically supports Kimmapii Kids, a Canadian charity that hand-delivers satchels of school supplies to financially-challenged children in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Getting to know the people of Peru, and working with the Q’ero shamans has been one of the highlights of her life. This is Derksen’s first book.
This book was a tough read for a third of the way through for me, not because it wasn't well written but because I had a hard time with the events of the beginning of the story of... Read morePublished on Oct. 10 2012 by Chenty
