4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked 80's melodic hard rock album, Aug 24 2010
By Justin Gaines - Published on Amazon.com
Some of you may recognize Lion as the band who performed the theme song for the big screen animated The Transformers - The Movie. The band, which featured guitarist Doug Aldrich (who would later join Dio and Whitesnake) and Kal Swan (of Tytan), straddled the line between hard rock and heavy metal, and had a sound similar to Dokken, Leatherwolf and Kick Axe.

1987's Dangerous Attraction was Lion's first full-length album. The band continued their "not quite hair metal but not really power metal" style they first demonstrated on their Power Love EP, and even included the EP's title track on this release. Doug Aldrich's guitar work is better than average, and Kal Swan does a great job on vocals. The songs are all hard-hitting but very melodic. There are a couple of more radio friendly songs, but for the most part this is a hard rocking album.

Lion would go on to release one more album before regrouping as the straightforward rock band Bad Moon Rising, which is also well worth checking out (see the excellent Full Moon Collection). Fans of the `80s hard rock and heavy metal scene should definitely have some Lion on their collections, and Dangerous Attraction is a great place to start. Unfortunately the band's albums are ridiculously hard to find on CD.

Note - While Dangerous Attraction was officially released on CD, at least in Japan, there are also plenty of bootlegs out there. You may want to make sure you're getting the real deal before you drop a major amount of money on this album.

Track Listing:

1. Fatal Attraction
2. Armed and Dangerous
3. Hard and Heavy
4. Never Surrender
5. Death on Legs
6. Power Love
7. In the Name of Love
8. After the Fire
9. Shout It Out

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Cd but Beware, May 2 2010
By S. Lyvers - Published on Amazon.com
This is such a great CD. I'm afraid the "Import" version may be a really good fake. Most people dont have the Obi strip. I bought mine off of ebay and one here on Amazon and they look kinda strange. Anybody know anything about this??

What can I say about this?

Well let's see, Lion, a band featuring a british bloke called Kal Swan on vocals, an guy called Doug Aldrich on guitars, another guy called Jerry Best on Bass and finally Mark Edwards on drums.

Wow is one word to describe these guys. I first heard Lion back in 1986 when I was a 10 year old boy, they are the band who wrote and recorded the title track for animated Transformers Movie and if you look past the fact that it's a kids film, ignore the lyrics and just listen to the song you wil find a very tight band. A truly amazing rhythm section, awesome vocals from Kal Swan and exceptional guitars from Doug Aldrich. I had chased after anything else by this band since that day and finally I tracked down not one but two full length albums by Lion.

The first being this one, Dangerous Attraction, which I had to buy on cassette from a private seller because this album is extremely rare. Luckily I got it very cheap but it's worth much more than I paid. Pure class, hook laden 80's hard rock played the way it should be played. Dangerous Attraction is song after song of very high quality music and never lets you down time after time. If you can get it or you know someone who has it then you must get yourself a copy of it.
