Product Description

From Amazon.com

The perfect timing of Beyonce Knowles’ career moves continues with the release of her debut solo album. Dangerously in Love’s best music is wildly up-to-date, craftily designed for both maximum street acceptance and positioning as some of the most cutting-edge stuff on current radio. The brash first single, "Crazy in Love," melds Jay-Z with an unstoppable Chi-Lites horn sample, shape-shifting into something brand new. Collaborations with Outkast’s Big Boi and Sean Paul also prick up the ears, while changes of pace like "Be with You" and "Speechless" achieve their aim with credibility. The disc becomes far too ballad heavy in its second half, but the key stuff is the noise she brings. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars A STEP AWAY FROM DESTINY, Jun 24 2003

This review is from: Dangerously in Love (Audio CD)
I don't think Beyonce could have come out with a better cd to set her apart from Destiny's child to emerge as a spectacular solo album....well at least i think. When you listen you can tell she made a strict effort to make sure it did not sound like another Destiny's Child album. Obviously "Crazy In Love" is a VERY catchy, radio-friendly song that you would strangle someone just to get the hook out of your head, but you learn the depths of her as an artist/songwriter and becoming a women in the seductive and sexy "Speechless", and the old-school groove of "Be With You". You also need to keep in mind that Beyonce is an executive producer on the Cd and wrote/co-wrote almost the entire album. "Baby Boy" the 3rd track on the album is DEFINITELY a certified hit single and great club song. "Hip Hop Star" is a very different kind of song, not one of my favorites but it has it's own type of funky offbeat upbeat vibe. "Signs" a Missy Elliot collaboration is a nice slow groove song....signature Missy and very creatively written. "Dangerously In Love 2" the album's title track is also wonderfully written. Even though it can be heard on Destiny's Child "Survivor" album and is pretty much just a remixed version of the DC version, it STILL makes you feel the heart and emotion she poured into writing that song. You can definitely hear that she FEELS this song in her voice. I could comment on EVERY song but the one I think needs to made known more than any other is the soft yet hard "Yes". Beyonce is taking a stand against a new companion tryin to get into her pants before she's ready. Could very well be a new way to look at pop music or create yet another new blended genre of music all its own. Here's my rating for all of the songs...

1. "Crazy In Love" - 8/10
2. "Naughty Girl" - 9/10
3. "Baby Boy" - 10/10
4. "Hip Hop Star" - 7/10
5. "Be With You" - 8/10
6. "Me, Myself And I" - 8/10
7. "Yes" - 10/10
8. "Signs" - 9/10
9. "Speechless" - 9/10
10. "That's How You Like It" - 8/10
11. "The Closer I Get To You" - 7/10
12. "Dangerously In Love 2" - 10/10
13. Interlude
14. Gift From Virgo" - 8/10
15. Hidden Track - nice dedication to "Daddy".

When this album came out half the world probably was waiting for it and the other half could of careless. When I heard it was coming out I thought it was going to be a bunch of mess coming from this lead singer. I mean we've seen her say "No No No" and ask her man can he pay her bills, from telephone bills to the Automo-BILLs. She wanted her man to say her name, and then he turn out to be a Bug-a -Boo. But when she got fed up she left her man @ home and went to the club and got "Jumpin Jumpin" She came out on top because she is a "Survivor." Then she got very "Bootylicious." With all of the good things happening, she then let "Emotion" take her over. Then she starred in Austin Powers: Gold member. We saw her "Work It Out." Clearly being on top of the world made her "Dangerously In Love!" for her long time boyfriend. She didn't stop there no-sir-rey because she felt extremely confident with herself which lead her to prance around in the film "The Pink Panther" (which I hate) giving her lover a special tease with "Check on It." (Of course that's not how it All went down that was just a quick overview.)

But Imagine to my surprise to hear this album. Although very ballad-heavy, it is obvious that Beyonce still loves a great up-tempo beat (and the rock-feel of 'hip hop star'). Her collaborations with other artists (Missy, Jay-Z, Big Boi, Sean Paul, LUTHER!) are impressive and show a depth and maturity that you probably would not have imagined the young lady having.

Beyonce once said in an interview that she wanted to make the album seem timeless. Several of the tracks have a very 70's "Age of Aquarius" feel to them, but she shows her range and talent throughout the album. "Baby Boy" with Sean Paul is my favorite because he is the prince of dance-hall. Even if you don't like her lyrics (which come a long way from "Bootylicious"), you'll love her ever-hypnotic beats.

Beyonce clearly demonstrates her vocals well on this album. The collection of songs will easily take you for a ride inside your mind and maybe down to your heart. Definitely worth looking into if you haven't already. For a solo artist who has left a group proves she is not hurting. Beyonce really knows how to work it on her own.
